IMHO

H800 has time alignment capability for tuning!

12" sub will usually go lower in Hz than a 10" sub.

I have done some research and thought for quite a while before finally deciding the way that best suits myself on the ICE setup. Cheers!

MS-8 nothing to shout about!

Nothing beat a 2/3 way active system, processor with time alignment, good EQ & at least a 12" sub.

have yet to collect car, but one of the stuff that is a must is to improve on Audio20. Previous rides came with Bose (Mazda CX7) and Dynaudio (Scirocco), both with amp but no subwoofer. I am a noob technically, was having lots of question marks reading some earlier posts. All I know is to enjoy the SQ, mix of crystal clear sound with bass (hope my description can be understood ) wonder what should i change with a <$2k budget?

With that budget, one option for you is JBL MS-8 with stock speakers. Think cost around $1200 + - with installation. And maybe add an active sub for bass.

For a better setup with good SQ, either go for a 2 or 3 way active. That of coz will need a total rebudgeting lol...

I am former ICE addict and wait cannot control myself.....hehehehe!

My car audio is still stock and it's pretty rubbish. I'm changing speaker this Fri - Helix with a Rainbow amp. Can be done for abt 2K. Vast diff. My last ride was with entry level Helix and after I de-kitted the sound of stock on my ride for 2 weeks was painful to the ears.

In-car electrical supply and power are designed in a pretty "marginal" way. My ride come with a start-stop function wonder by adding a MS-8, a active sub woofer would it drain the battery faster or in another word shorten the battery life, when stationary my engine is cut and oil flow supported by a electric motor ? IMHO, I just want to have a simple one off upgrade dealing with ICE is like tour de "black hole" if not careful, it will suck you dried till last drop...... Saw in forum some guy up size the battery to bigger AMP capacity, I think this is not safe alternator and wiring system may not able to take it. what's your comment?

IMHO - MS-8 not gonna squeeze much juice from your car battery as U are going to use it as a processor and not as a pre-amp.

Using it as a pre-amp means U add power amps which you are not gonna do so not a problem.

Saw people upsize battery doesn't help when their your alternator cannot keep up with the drain.

That will cause pre-mature alternator breakdown.

I have been following this thread since last year to look for advice on how to improve on my stock sound system for my W204. Had since installed the MS-8 and an 8-inch sub-woofer. Sound had improved drastically since the MS-8 was installed. Now, thinking of changing the stock speakers. The installer adviced me to install a Phoenix gold ampS400.4 and Rainbow 6.5" 2 way Speaker Package, that include Component Speaker (CSX 265) and Coaxial Speaker (KX 165) at total cost of $1,200. Dont know if the set-up and price is reasonable. Any advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

i think for cheap scale upgrade... add a ms-8 will do... the current c180 7gt, comes with active sub..

Wow...really? Where is the active sub located? Size? There is already a series of air pockets opening for sub at the boot area. I guess it should be mounted there.
