ALVARO ARBELOA IS SET TO RETURN TO SPAIN FOR 6M QUID. LEAVING ANFIELD DUE TO FAMILY PROBLEMS.

Darn it, I thought Arbeloa was pretty good last season.

Our aging defence needs help!!

Every year this time, I always hope that they can pick up some gems but most of the time money not well spent lay (maybe except for Torres in recent times)..... Hope that it's not another "high promise low ranking" season  ..... and need not walk alone again :punk1: :punk1:

like that kuyt will play permanently in right wing? imbalanced squad

no one to challenge him leh...babel on the left and occasionally yossi benayoun can play right....

no orthordox right winger and if we sign barry we'll have no money left. and we have the problem of too many central midfielders, alonso, mascherano, lucas and now barry. not to mention our star SG......

unless alonso is sold to make way for another winger but time looks short leh.

TBH Rafa's left/right backs will be the 'wingers' bombing fwd when necessary ?

Effectively we have 5 midfielders of which 1 sits to protect the back 4, 1 link player and 2 taking advanced positions on either flank. I reckon we need Barry to cover for Mascherano and Lucas Leiva's absence in order to grab a good start to the season. Ryan Babel also not avail till a couple of games later.

Our most utilised formation over the last couple of seasons has been 4-3-2-1. This season we have more of an attack minded flavour so I believe we will see plenty of goalscoring - more so than last season.

Alonso is in negotiations to return to Spain as we speak.

i think the reason is because we have 5 European Cups and Devils have only 3. :tazzie: :tazzie: :snglfk:

Gunners and Chelsea still trying to win one.

and I believe Kopite fans are more vocal and loyal.

most fans in Singapore are divided into Liverpool and Man U.

Liverpool fans stem from those days where media only show/broadcast/print top stories from top sides and Liverpool win literally everything in the 70s to 80s.

Liverpool had a break since the 90s to allow Man U to steal the limelight.

Although there are many chelsea, arsenal fans now, many in singapore are still either liverpool or man u fans, due to the media coverage on these 2 giants.

Man u? they are too cocky at times during the cantona-bad attitude era. and the history of rivalry of both clubs r well documented.

i dun want to start a flaming war so someone should start a ManUre thread and all those that support them should post there and live in their theatre of day-dreamers.

oic no big deal,

bro loctorng. in case u were misinformed,

it quite a big deal.

Liverpool were the most successful side in the the history of english top flight soccer.

We have 18 top flight titles to date and its no secret that Ferguson is trying to emulate Liverpool FC's previous successes.

He has mentioned it before in newspaper and magazine interviews.

His view is also shared by his senior players like Giggs, Gary 'Handball' Neville etc. :devil2:

Thats y they relish playing Liverpool matches.

Man U's last title in may08 made them 17 times top flight champions. 1 more time to be on par with us....

so liverpool at this point, has still more success than ManUre. Haha :dblfk: :dblfk: :dblfk:

I'm realistic enough to admit that we lack success domestically in recent years.

Time will tell if we can pull further away from ManUre.

But Liverpool have rich tradition.

We still have more successes in Europe and domestic titles. :snglfk: :snglfk:

and when we were winning back to back honours, Cristiano Ronaldo's mother was proabably still a virgin. :tazzie: :whip2:

u guys have been relegated before

so did ManUre.

they played in 2nd Div

1935–36, 1974–75 :death: >:D

Funny how things always turn out especially with Wes Brown's howler.

I must say that we definitely looked much better w/o SG tonight and with Riera in the wide position. It's also worth pointing out that although Rafa has had his share of misses in the past, he's dug out a couple of gems too. Early days yet but Riera certainly looks the part considering his great debut game in what is possibly one of the biggest fixtures of the season.

SG's absence was a good thing in hindsight. Yes he does wonders for the team but sometimes over reliance can be a bad thing. Anyway it's good to see him return from injury! Alonso played a fantastic game spraying passes from midfield. He's been off form for waaay too long and I'm happy to see him return to form again.

Well 5 years is a long time but tonight feels like I've just come out of the confessional booth
