Changing from 17" to 18" rim

Recommended Posts

My case is not tyres shop issue. W204 is like that will slightly pulling left even if it is new from factory. This can be solve by changing four camber bolts if I've not mistaken. just because I've changed to 18" amg rim, they told me no warranty coverage, my se even though ask me to change back to stock 17" rim 1st before sending in then it is under warranty.

This four camber bolts thingy is truly a mysterious. Not all has this problem & some swear that is generic issue for w204.

My previous w204 also had this pulling left problem when new but it was solved by MBM (changed the camber bolt) BUT the cons side is eat a little bit tyres.

My 2 cents-

It is probably better to drive the car as stock for a couple of months before any modification. A couple of good reasons to do that,

- Understand the car better as it is

- Appreciate the modification better

- Resolve any issues the car may have without warranty being void

Cheers !

This is my 'strategy' too. I'm looking to up 18' but need to resolve e veering left issue or if Pml give Gd deal for f30 320i then no need to change rim Liao. Heh..

U will sense when u drive it.

Else go to a straight road and hold ur steering wheel straight, make sure e 3 pointed star is upright. If car stays within lane, Congrats. If not within lane, regrets.

Allows me to chip in abit. Make sure the road is a straight, quiet & without potholes or slanted etc Go at around 80km/h let go the steering then check whether yr car will move straight or not. If towards left or right meaning u have alignment issue.

if your ride veers left, driving 5,000km will not straighten the car. Get the wheel alignment checked.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Ok we have another bro here with issue. Tell me abt it man...how it can happen to a new car, a MB at that, totally baffles me.

Don't wait till 5k, if u are free just go get it rectified.

Btw, c&c can't do alignment on Sat. They said need more hours to rectify hence can only do on weekdays.

I dont think camber is the issue, of course changing more -ve camber will have more wear on the inside of the tire. If your toe is not as recommended factory settings then, might have an issue with drifting to left or right.

If not mistaken, roads are not meant to be absolute flat or straight for water disperse to the side.

But if a whole bunch of guys having this issue then its most likely manufacturer fault.

Also always recommended to align wheels after changing rims or tires/tyres.

Just my 10cents.

Hi red baron, it surprising that the se also said his similar drive veering to the left...

Yes is marketing talk so that u wont get frustrated as u are not alone. Would you buy a car that couldnt drive straight? Next thing they will tell u that is a batch problem. U tell them if is a car couldnt drive straight & batch problem they shld scrap it!! U pay them good money so they shld get it resolved!!. Of course yr car must be stock & no mods at all.

Until ur SE lets u test drive his c180, it's all salesman talk.

There's no comfort in driving a car that keeps veering left/right.

Maybe I should give BMW a chance to prove it's sheer driving pleasure.

This is my opnion, if you hold the steering and car is not fighting for going left or right that's ok. But if you let go your steering on straight road then car veer slight to right or left is normal.

The only way to make sure your car run dead straight without holding the steering is to change the car wheel into train steel wheels and run it on MRT track.

Is this a batch problem or an inherent issue with all FLW204?

Mine was Jan/Feb batch. No mods done till date.

Btw, Changi Coastal road is one of many fine examples for those of u who want to test.

Booked a servicing date next week to rectify.
