W205: GPS Unlock

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anyone has experience with the GPS unlock cost?  Spoke to a PI and he said that it costs S$2000 to have the GPS region unlock to get Singapore Garmin maps.

Any ideas on how to DIY?  Thanks

What GPS and unlock what to get S'pore Garmin Maps?

You have a locked Garmin GPS device?

or You have a COMAND loaded with other country maps?

Original COMAND do not use Garmin based maps!

Cheers

I'm a MB Whore! :)

From what I know, Audio20 doesn't come with GPS and my SE had to give me a garmin one to compliment it. I was browsing through the options for C180 W205 upgrade options and it seems that you can't upgrade it to COMAND Online, only the surround speakers which is kinda strange.

Anyway, bro Kepiting is right, Original COMAND don't use garmin based maps.

Hi, I have no idea.

The PI just told me that the $2000 fee is for the unlock to load other country maps and they will buy the Garmin version to load into the CoMAND system.  He told me that the maps will come with traffic update too.

If the COMAND system does not use the Garmin maps, what maps does it load?  Can I load it myself and is it hard to do?

Thanks

Based on your circumstances, I highly suspect your PI is providing you with an aftermarket GPS solution which they will integrate into your HU screen. As the other members pointed out MB does not use Garmin maps, and you can't simply preload any map you want into the Comand system. On a side note, if that's the case $2000 is a high asking price for an aftermarket system.

actually the W205, MB has used Garmin in both Audio20 and Command, check out all the MB forums in Europe and USA

Mine is from UK, came pre-wired Garmin but they gave me Europe Maps which is totally useless,

somehow during my time of purchase, Singapore Garmin Maps compatible with Audio20 wasn't available

So my PI gave me a aftermarket product Galactio, so far I am happy, it works fine, and it is touch-screen too

yup, they installed the touch screen into my Audio20

The PI I spoke to said it is Garmin version but costs additional $2000.  Another PI told me its from MB but it is the 2013 version - with MCE.  He was laughing saying that it is pretty much useless but included as part of the higher price.  He said most of his customers use their Google Maps on their phones.  It is quite funny as you pay $200k for a car and cannot use the Navigation.  Went to C&C and they said that it is an additional charge.  If using Bluetooth to the main navigation set, it is very slow.

Looks like it is better off using your handphone for navigation.

How much did you pay bro and what's the PI you approached? =)

I used SG vehicles , won't comment whether they are good or not, the Touchscreen GPS is what I bargained in the package around 2k,

If given a choice again, I might try Exodus global, heard many many good reviews

Anyway, my ride came from Germany via a UK dealer, one of the first RHD produced W205, before they moved most RHD w205 to South Africa

SG Vehicles quoted $2000 for the GPS installation.  They also claimed the vehicles are made in Germany.  When I checked with another PI, they said only less than 10 vehicles came from Germany while the rest all made in South Africa.

Went to the local distributor and seems that they are back logged till September 2015.

Yes, as only during initial production batches came from Germany, you can check the VIN code of the car, its located under the driver's seat

Even in UK now, they get their W205 from South Africa, anyway, according to some Intl Forums, the south Africa plant of Merc Benz has won a lot of awards and given the thumbs up for quality

For me, its the first time I bought a Conti Car, call me old school, but I thought it was nice I got my ride from the German Plant, although there isn't any proven difference which plant it was produced lah

Bought a car from them. Don't ever go near them with a 10 foot pole. They over sell in every aspect. If you have done your homework you will know the difference. Once the agreement is signed there is no recourse (suck thumb).

And their warranty workshop is also mediocre. Their logo is 'once a customer, always a customer'.

Sad to say I will be their first and last customer.

I agree the workshop is mediocre

I went in after 2mths due to a software error, thought it was under warranty

but kanna charge $400 plus to reset the software

makes me worried what if my gearbox really blow under warranty

so far only consolation is that I bought in Sep-14, the prices in general had since went up

almost very nearly bought C180 from AD, but end up with C200 from PI

reason being the pana roof that came with it, also C180 offered no memory seats

so far I like the extra 30plus Horse Power,

but I am damn worried if something goes wrong

my touchpad was not working well since day 1, but the workshop don't seem to want to do anything for me too

Suggest you call SG Juliet to rectify this problem. A failed touchpad is not acceptable IMO.
