Sharing Part Numbers

I have been talking to many Benz retro-fitters who tend to be forum sponsors. Found out that because the forum moderators take their sponsorship, there has been a common understanding that the service offered has been very expensive. Why this kind of situation has to be?

 

For example, As I travel to Europe,  I wanted to know a particular part no of MB so that I could get it from there while returning back, so...I asked a sponsor to help out in providing the MB part no... He refused point blank to give me the number as  he might have thought that could jeopardize his sales here?? Super Kiasu ??

 

Why such attitude?? Is it wrong in sharing a MB part number? We live in a straight forward.. corrupt free country which all of us are very proud of...

With global sourcing make easier i think they have the right to protect themselves..

Even i had original parts installed with number removed or defaced..

Well, Does that mean that they overcharge us for parts?

 

The sponsor profusely declined to name the part no. for me as he might have thought that disclosing the info might hamper his sales??

 

But, in my sincere opinion... most of us are ripped off on the retrofits....

 

 

 

PS: I see the thread title changed by modz. I am not here to create a vroom here... just trying to help fellow Singaporeans to know the truth...

I am no one to spoil your business. If I buy the part from Europe, I need to come to you like people for installation so that I can save some $$$ on part cost... Hope my point is clear

Bro.. I have no intention to spoil anyone's business. I am trying to save some bucks for myself... If you are in my shoes, you would realize that. Off the record, If you are in Oil & Gas business, I could certainly help you.. not to hide everything inside my pants.. If you are selling something close to my needs, I would certainly do sales with you.. no hard feelings... That's the beauty of a typical Singaporean...

No worries bro!! I can understand yr frustration but over here cars business competition is intense. So i think that site sponsor is unwillingly to share the information. Its will be better if you post the parts here that you looking for and seek for advise, rather than bcoz of one not so good tree you chop off the entire forest

Honestly, I wont post the part numbers If I get it. Some one who is in need like me... can PM me and ask.. that too if I get the part no. only.. I have the item here in the shop in Germany...but need to double confirm the part no for compatibility reason...

it is the sponsor's prerogative whether to give you the part number FOC or not.

 

the sponsors help support SGMerc by being a site sponsor and in return, they get to advertise their products and services here.

 

they have no obligation to provide you with a part number so that you can buy it cheaper online. they are not just selling a product, they are selling their years of knowledge, expertise, testing, R&D-ing with wrong parts, back and forth, etc. they have a lot invested in their business as well.

 

you cannot expect them to give up the information FOC can you? if they do, good on them and all the more better for you.

 

likewise, you as a consumer have the purchasing power and in a free market such as this, you can vote with your money. like i always say though, why go through the hassle of importing the items yourself just to save a few bucks? help out our economy lah!

have to agree that SOME do chop carrots, but gotto be fair to them too la. As a consumer, if we think their prices are sky high, its either we look elsewhere or dont mod at all. Biz is all about money, no? bottomline is always about profits.

bobven, first and foremost welcome to the community. SGMerc was never set up with the intent of being a business (if you can even call running this forum a business!).

 

Sponsors are an integral part of the forum ecosystem where everyone co-exists harmoniously. Businesses need exposure to new customers and forum owners need to generate some form of revenue to keep the servers running. 

 

There is a trove of information collected in these pages and I'm sure you will eventually find the right workshop to handle your needs.

 

Try http://www.getmercedesparts.com for your part numbers. Just beware LHD/RHD spec.

Another point to consider. .. Bobven... that'll be workshop. .. any reputable workshop here will not entertain you bringing in your own parys... mainly because of profit.... but also because they do not trust that the part brought in is authentic. . Too many fakes in the market. ... thus their reputation is at stake too.... do be considerate before u start flaming sponsors .... IMHO... be prepared to pay if u want marque brand.... otherwise a donkey would suffice.. it only needs carrots to move...

You wanted to purchase it yourself and then get someone to install it for you, therefore you are trying to get a "best deal" for yourself which might not be a good deal for them.
