Ran over a big pothole!!!

Recommended Posts

HI bros, I ran over a large pothole a couple of weeks ago at high speed (around 60-70kmh/hr I think) and now the car feels 'unsteady'. It also feels 'vibrating' at a speed of 30kmh/hr but as I speed up faster the vibrations dissappear..

do the wheels need re-alignment or are these symptoms of something worse??? Undercarriage?? The jolt was really bad coz the hole was big. I already complained to LTA and they patched up the hole but my poor car already kenna... :(

btw I am a returning member but I just realised I gotta register a new account.

Do this

1) send yr 4 rims for balancing

2) hoist yr ride to check for under carriage for any dsmage

3) alignment check after 1 & 2

Come back here & let us know the outcome.

the hole was along bartley road but its been patched already after I complained big time to LTA. they patched it up immediately, kudos to them.

Mine is the original rims that come with the avantgarde model.

ok the earliest i can bring the car in is this coming thursday.

what can happen if the rim is warped?

if warped or cracked, then the longer you put off the replacement, the worse it gets. And can lead on to damage to other parts of your car - suspension, fender, bodywork...Might want to bring it into the shops ASAP. take a day off tomorrow?

I'll try to bring it in tomorrow.

Any good workshop to recommend around bartley area? I used to bring to starblack but they closed their branch nearby.

No point going back CnC since this is unlikely to be covered under warranty.

Any tyre shop will do. The moment the rim goes on the balancing machine, it'll be as clear as daylight if the rim is warped. I know cos I kena before!

+1 go to any reputable tyre shop. Rims are not covered under warranty. If rim is warped, get it replaced, if no single rim replacement, u may have to replace a set of 4.

If the problem doesn't go away or other parts are damaged, send back to C & C after ur rims are changed to claim warranty.

i *THINK* i read somewhere before you can CLAIM from LTA as it is their duty to make sure the roads are safe to drive on and does not cause damage to our vehicles. afterall, we ARE paying road tax, ERP, etc..

if rims are wrap, and original at that, might cost 4 figures getting it fixed, you should give it a shot. follow up your e-mail with them and ask them for compensation.

thanks for the great suggestion.. I will definitely take it up with LTA especially if the rim is damaged and cost is in 4 figure.

You can definitely claim from LTA, just remember the time and date when you call LTA regarding the pothole, take photos of your rim or any parts of your vehicle that was damage by the pothole. Keep all these records and then call the LTA hotline. They are very concern on public complaint....

Sir is correct. I read it on the old forums while I was still on trolling mode.

Spore LTA very slow at doing their daily normal work but when handling public complaint, they react very fast.

Yesterday traveling home after work for more than 17 hours, saw a FOD on SLE But too late to change lane or E-stop.

When reach home, straight away check my DRL and left side tyres and body. And call LTA hotline to inform them to remove the FOD.

This morning check again for tyres pressure.

Our expressway suddenly become a dangerous place for our expensive cars with bigger than normal potholes and significant larger FOD

i counted 6 different road surfaces just heading to MBS via ECP from Bedok direction. too many sudden humps and small potholes to keep count. also, i think they made it into a built-in safety feature for KPE - any faster than 80km/h and you will feel like puking from the bumpy road.
