Another thing for future owners is that the viewing angle is bad and that is an understatement. Maybe is me or maybe it's the car, when on roads is not so much a concern but in narrow spaces you literally cannot see all 4 corners of your car and prob will hit curbs along the way

when i did the test drive, i dindt really notice anything bad , maybe i didnt notice ...

viewing angle bad - the back window ? cos smaller ?

i think u mean, driving up / down those tight shopping center carpark ya, you worry backside will kena the wall?

any way to prevent / minimise the chance ? buy a bigger front mirror - attach to it ?

Mainly when reversing.... you just gotta trust the front/rear parking sensors and camera. Good thing the nearside mirror auto-tilts to show the rear wheel in Reverse.

Surprisingly it's available for rent in many places in the UK, except in manual gearbox. Haven't rented before though.

Good tip about the auto-tilt exterior mirror setting ... missed it in the manual.

I find my right blind spot blocked by the frame bcos of my seat position.

A class engine is reliable been used on the C class first. The gearbox is the supposing inspired by AMG, it is a wet clutch and can take all the Torque and abuse.

this is actually a good thing, tested engine with C Class , gearbox - by AMG - they will know what they are doing ....

but for the new facelift - A Class facelight will be the "first" to  getting the new "computer"  / tune up version ya?

ie in terms of 0-100 , speed and fuel efficiency ...

ie other models within the family not yet getting this updated software ?

Budget aside, I would say no go for Cla or C. Would rather go for vw Passat/cc 2l/6 wet dsg from Germany.

Guru, out there, can explain to layman ... what is the diff between "wet" vs Dry DSG ? wat is the pro n cons?

Another thing is that if starting a family/getting married. Extra savings more impt than the car unless it is to a bigger car for more ppl and storage/safer car like suv or volvos

yeah, save some $, if wack CLA / C Class will be another 25-35K more .... can use for wedding nite, baby powder ...etc

I'm not a guru, but I know GTI is using wet DSG while normal Golfs are using the dry DSG. Wet DSGs are supposedly more reliable, which is why there are no GTIs having DSG problems while you hear plenty of Golfs, Jettas etc breaking down due to the dry DSG issue.

In terms of performance, i'm not sure about the difference, but it must mean something for VW to use wet DSGs for their higher end/performance cars (GTI, A6 etc) and dry ones for the lower range models.

dry clutches can only take 250nm of torque however the shifting of gears and responsiveness are second to none hence whenever vw cars are reviews always is good.

Wet clutches can easily take 350-500nm of torque however if u don't have that power from the engine then it's gonna be lethargic and sluggish

hi,

thanks for your comments ... just trying to understand ...

so for example for A180/A200, we only have 200/250nm of Torque ... and BHP not that high ...

for Wet clutches (found in A Class) - will it feel lethargic / sluggish then?

least during my test drive A180, it feels "ok no" but not sure after a few years, the feeling still the same (if i go back to C&C for proper service) or become slow n not responsive ...

if you leave at E mode,it will be sluggish as its meant for comfort and economy. if switch to S mode, it will become another animal.

usually, i leave it at E and use the flappies during overtaking.

If coming from a 1.8 NA, 5spd car to the Merc 1.6 turbo and 7 wet box will feel good.

Another thing is that Merc not known for performance orientated cars for their normal lineup. Reliability more impt.

You should go test drive a golf or Jetta sport and see the difference to get a feel of a dry/wet box

yeah, Sports mode really feel "fierce" ...

does anyone have any fuel comparison? ie realistic on SG roads, what is the fuel consumption like Econ vs Sports Mode ?

yeah, my daily drive is Civic 1.8A (5 sp) , even A180 does feel a big improvement ...

that is why i was quite sold on it ... when i test drive ...

so if budget permits, no need to try A200, should be much better ...

reliability & high resale value has always been the best plus points when i talk to my frds regarding Benz cars

VW - i haven try it before ... maybe i should head over during the long SG50 weekend ...

a bit off topic ... for the new facelift A class... there is a fourth option ... MANUAL ... what does that mean?

as the old traditional manual type ?

Got the new 4 mode system so good. Compared to the current A class like obsolete.

Comfort economy sport/sport+ and individual/manual

The manual driving mode u mean? Up up down down paddle shifting

Drove my friend's Golf GTi before, the pick up is fantastic, but a tad untamed for someone who have been driving a 4WD SUV for the past 6 & currently a manual Copen for the last 2 years.

Have test drove the Giulietta as well as a BMW 5-Series recently, I must say the moment I sat in the A180 test vehicle, drove in E then in S modes, I was totally glad that my wife made the decision to booked it even before the test drive, and it was the best decision, albeit a bit painful in the pocket, hahaha...

Seems like it's just a more convoluted way to enable sports mode if your car doesn't have adjustable suspension. Because without adjustable suspension, all the settings will do is change gearbox mode.

To be frank, I only use the S mode less than 10 times in Singapore road.

It just hold the rev higher before changing gear and quicker downshift.

Yes, without the dynamic suspension, all these 3 or 4 modes are pretty useless, all it does is to change the way the gearbox shift and the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal.

Like I mentioned before, I will just leave to E and use the paddies to shift.
