Pre-facelifted car

Recommended Posts

Hi bros,

Would you buy a pre-face-lited car as it is so much cheaper as compared to the face-lifted ones?

Another question is will the depreciation of a pre-face-lifted car be more than the face-lifted ones?

Regards!

Another way is mod to near FL design?

Perhaps bros who mod to FL design can share the estimate cost. :)

You can mod for probably around $5k+ and up but it still won't solve the cost and depreciation.

Be prepared for the loss in depreciation. My AD W204 is the FL model and will be turning 2 years old end August. If I trade it in with C&C for either the new E-Class or CLA now, I'll lose $60k on depreciation alone and the car is not even 2 yet! That equates out to $30k+ annually not factoring in maintenance, road tax, parking, ERP, etc. Every morning when I wake up, that's more than $100 gone on this car. The point is, cars sold in Singapore especially premium continental brands command an asking price far more than what the car is worth. Someone has to pay for that extra and it's a lot of money to lose. Back to yc3333's point, if all these are a concern to the buyer, perhaps it's not the right time for him/her to buy a car, or perhaps some other cheaper alternative might be a better option? It is after all our Government's goal to cool the market and not make cars so easily affordable to jam up our limited roads.

just check the condition of the ride.

pre or post face-lifted, all Benz.

dep shld be roughly abt the same, dun be surprised if the pre's dep is higher.

my ex-W204 C200 CGI's dep is higher than my current C180 CGI.

cheers.

I did not expect these stuck up remarks. Kai just look at the condition of the ride and decide for yourself.

Bro Kai IIRC is driving a Pre FL E250cgi.

He doesn't deserve those remarks!

Maybe he's contemplating keeping or selling his Pre FLW212 E250cgi vs buying a FL.

I remembered he asked lots of Qs in this forum before buying his E250.

I guess he's just been prudent asking Qs before making his decision.

Thanks for the info.

Agree on the depreciation for new cars especially the first 3 years.

That's also why I decided to get pre owned car cos really lose lots of money to own new.

Plus can mod if got spare little cash. :D

I think in Spore, more well off or less well off, everyone will still ask abt price and extract the best value for everything...

I guess most of us mere mortals do the same when we buy our rides except for many of those who has a stable of rides don't need to ask cos the showroom managers will be running to them.:)

Face lifted or not, I think the depreciation depends the overall car price tied to the COE and OMV, age of the car, no. of owners, mileage etc. which determine the price, also the current market situation.

Yup, cars especially those with high OMV are ridiculously overpriced now. Comparing to US, Europe, or even HK prices, ours is astronomical. You can buy a C63 there with what we pay for a C180 here.

Why BMW 5 series has lower OMV as compared to Mercs E-class but the prices are pretty much the same?

Too bad I'm a cheapskate as suggested who can only afford PI.... Maybe I should sell away this car and buy TOYOTA from AD.... but then again... buying from AD for Toyota can allow me to buy PI for Mercedes..... Why not??? :phew:  :phew:  :phew:

PML sells their cars with more options as standard. Why not go to C&C and configure the E-Class to the same option spec as what PML is offering and see how the price deviates? Comand Online alone will cost you an extra $10k!

That's why BMW has more options as compared to Mercedes. Mercedes standard options are rather limited and the reverse camera and GPS are locally retrofitted :(

Personally my logic has been this... when U buy a car.. you'll definitely wants to drive it... not leave it in the workshop while they go figure what wrong with it and you pay the instalments...not forgetting the customer service sucks big time.....  I rest my case your honour.....

Hi Kai i take your question at face value.  Pre FL ride (w204) will be at least 3 years or more in age. New FL rides are younger so as in any ride, ceteris paribus, the depreciation is lower for the Pre FLs cars as they r older.  Conventional wisdom is that 1st 2-3 years of depreciation for a ride are the highest.

Again i qualify that it is ceteris paribus, we also need to look at the applicable COE for the particular ride as i think that will affect the annual vehicle depreciation? I maybe wrong so if i am i humbly stand corrected but i will calculate depreciation rate using the full orignal purchase price of the car which will include the COE.  If the COE is much lower for a Pre FL than depreciation may also be lower?

I think your questions are wise and reasonable and do not reflect any negative attributes. Also, whats more imprtant is whats under the hood and if both Pre and Post FL rides have the same engine it does not matter much.  Just spend afew k to slap on a body-kit and convert the Pre to Post FL ride....problem solved.

But if u really wana modd your ride...Merc is not the way to go fer u...again IMHO.  Go fer the BMWs, visit BMW Sg forum, BMWs have more sub-models and more options for modding and body-kits.

If you read Kai Qs he's asking you guys "Would you buy a pre-face-lited car as it is so much cheaper as compared to the face-lifted ones?"

He did'nt says he's contemplating buying one and I don't think so too cos IIRC he's currently driving a late 2010 or early 2011 Pre FL E250cgi.

The FL one has a nicer and better front dash. Most importantly, the new one has a7gtronic gearbox that is smooth and gets the car moving in a more willing manner compared to the 5 speed.

Thats true indeed. But they had 7Gtronic even in Pre-FL?  I am abit concerned about the reliability and durability of the 7Gtronics. Whats the esitmated mileage and shelf life? 40k km? 80k km? 100k km?.  If it fails i think it will be expensive to replace? Probably above $10k?

I heard the horror stories from VW about their 7speed gear box, of coz i am aware that its a different gear box altogether from the merc 7 Grtonic but it still raises the issue on reliability of 7 speed gear boxes in general.

Perhaps the older 6speed gear boxes are more hardy, albeit less fuel efficient and responsive?

The MB 7-Gtronic "technology" has been around for some time (2003) and well proven technology

It has been only on the S Class and higher specs MB including the Pre FL E300 and above,

MB has been critize for a long time for keeping the old 5 speed tyranny on their "bread & butter smaller engine capacity C & E models".

Doin't remember was there a 6 speed on MB.

Probably due to competition from other German marques, it was then introduced to the Pre FLW212 only in late 2011 but not before that and then into the the FL W204.

It was a 1st for MB to put their 7G-tronics into an engine capacity of <2L.

7 speed means the gearing are more spread out, quieter and more fuel efficient,

IIRC VW don't design their 7 Speed tyranny and it's a dry 7 speed Gear box.

It's usually a mechatronic failure (look at my avatar :))

Even the Audi wet 7 Speed Gear Box also face problem but not as widely reported as VW especially the 1.4 TSI models.

Lots of Sg VW owners were "up in arms" with VW Sg and asking for extended warranty for their gear boxes.

It was not widely "recognised" as a problem till last year China VW call for a recall.

Cheers

Hi CK,

Does that mean the Pre-FL is using 5 speed auto?

Cos mine is also Pre-FL but is 7Gtronic...blurr
