Problems found during servicing - what's the appropriate cost?

I just sent my car in for servicing and the SA found several problems and gave me a quote for them. Can u tell me if these are reasonable?

My car is a w211 FL with only 53k on the clock

1. Cam sensor seal and insulation wire $380

2. Car vibrating during idle In Drive but not in Neutral or Park. SA said it was engine block rubber mount and gear box rubber mount. He quoted $750.

3. Parking light wire exposed from insulation wear. He said the whole light needs replacing. Quoted $400 per light. This is too much IMO and I'll just stick a bit of insulating tape on.

4. AC hissing. He will check for gas leaks.

Do you think the cam sensor and engine block rubbers are reasonable?

the below statement are just my opinion

- parking light can put on hold or use cheaper option, change or light is not necessary.

- engine mount --> sooner or later will have to change. 750 is rather on the high side heard can get it done @ mid 600.

- AC as long as it works im okie. unless sudden lost of coldness its a hint to get it checked.

ultimately by the looks of ur complaints ... time to switch car service / workshop. =S

No lah... I went to mbm.... In fact, I'm still here while they checking the car. Thought I'd find out prices before repairing. I won't be changing the headlights but the cam sensor looks like needs changing. Hopefully this asiacare warranty will cover at least some of these.

If you have any problem with the light cabling go back to CnC. My neighbour got both front light replaced FOC, 4 year old C200 even without warranty.

Go buy OE parts and go outside and replace. Lots cheaper and you get your car within the day. Leaving it at C&C will take forever to repair.

I went to MBM and TBH, i'm a little disappointed with the service for the following reasons:

1. I explicitly told the SA that I needed the car by 3pm and they only finished at 3.45pm. This is from me waiting there from 10.30am.

2. The service indicator was not reset by MBM who are supposed to be mercedes specialists. This is not a big deal as instructions are all over for resetting the indicator but for someone who's not as internet savvy, it would mean another trip there. Disappointed that this was overlooked.

3. My car was due a service C. From my reading, this includes a brake fluid change and dust filter change. Apparently, the computer should tell them what else needs doing. From what I can tell,m MBM dis not plug in my car for a diagnostic and only did a basic service. Again disappointed that a mercedes "specialist" didn't do what a service C was supposed to have been done. None of the FSS service items were done like air filter replacement, etc.

4. No interior vacuum done. Only exterior washing.

5. Engine and transmission mounts cannot be replaced under "AsiaCare warranty". I'm not sure but from my reading on the internet, these should be covered by warranty. Maybe its how the SA words their proposals to the warranty company. The SA basically did not try to help claim this under the warranty. As their cost to replace this is >$200 from another reputable workshop, I decided not to go ahead with MBM.

6. My service book was not stamped. Shouldn't this be done automatically?

They replaced the rear disc and pads ($550) and cam sensor seal ($380) and insulation wires during the service. The cost was on the high side but acceptable. I presumed MBM would have checked everything else but from the sheer number of cars going through that workshop, I really wonder if they can do a thorough job of "servicing" every car properly.

All in all, not a fantastic experience there for the price I was charged. I will be looking elsewhere for my next service.

This sounds encouraging. Thanks for that. I will make a trip to CnC and see if they will replace.

Rear disc and pads at $550?? That is really high. Have you try calling and OE distributor to find out the diff?

I just done mine at SB with original pairs of mb rear rotor and pad, and costed me 4xx, and already found it expensive..

I saw this thread here and thought $550 was a little high but I guess I was ripped off by MBM.

Really disappointed with the whole experience!

Looks like they are not out to keep long term customers but one hit rip offs!
