Just back from inspection

This was about 4 months ago - i counted 4 SEs sitting in the middle of their ground floor office space. i'm normally the impatient one and my wife the reverse. i wanted the 320i so i patiently stood around waved to anyone in the blue shirt who would look our way. after half hour of getting nothing, my wife walked straight out towards C&C...and thats why im inflicting so much pain and suffering here instead of BMWSG.

Truth be told, the way C&C priced their C coupes, it's a no brainer actually.

Not really cos PI new z4 was around 15k cheaper than the c250 coupe. That was 5 mths ago.

For the same price, u can't even get the old E92 325!

E90 320 or F30 320?

F30 320 - they only have the previous model coupes and convertibles even by then. would love to tell you what the overtrade was and all that but i didnt get to ask the info. a friend tried going to PML to consider the F30 a couple months back.

he is now happily driving an A4 1.8T.

The Mrs drives an E90 320. Actually the PML SE we had was a pretty good one. They were having a promo on the X1 & X3 with the 2L turbo engines. If not for the fact that I have already signed on the dotted line for the C Coupe, I could have gone for the X3 instead! It was cheaper!

Ok now the main point. After the inspection I kaypo go ask the inspector about the twin exhaust mod whether can pass inspection or not.....

Ans: NO.

Reason: Muffler and the 2 exhaust outlet are considered 'one unit'. To pull one of the tip to the other side to create double exhaust will be deemed as 'two units' and thus will not pass inspection. I reasoned that anything after muffler should be allowed, and even showed him that W204's exhaust comes with 2 tips original. Inspector just shakes head, and advised that if I want the look then only dummy ones can pass inspection.

My Reply from LTA Engineering department regards to exhaust muffler

Dear Mr Seah

Please refer to your email dated 12 July 2011.

We would like to inform you that we have no objection to the fitting of

exhaust pipe outlet attachment (by way of welding or screwed on) onto the

original exhaust pipe after the rear muffler so long as this does not

adversely affect the safe operation of the vehicle and the exhaust pipe

outlet attachment is not welded directly to the silencer/muffler. Please

also ensure that the followings are complied with when fitting the exhaust

pipe outlet attachment:

a) the exhaust pipe outlet is installed with sound engineering practice and

must be adequately supported;

b )there is no modification to the other parts of the exhaust system,

unless approved by us;

c) the exhaust pipe does not protrude longitudinally or laterally from the

vehicle;

d) the exhaust pipe outlet is on the off-side or rear of the vehicle; and

e) the vehicle exhaust continues to comply with the applicable exhaust gas

and noise emission standards

Should you require more information on vehicle modifications, you can visit

our 1M portal for a set of vehicle modification guidelines at

http://www.onemotoring.com.sg.

We hope the above clarifies. Should you require further clarifications,

please do not hesitate to contact us at 1800-CALL-LTA (1800 2255 582).

Yours sincerely

From LTA letter, does it mean it is still illegal to do the twin exhaust mod like the one markcwq has?

As it explicitly states "the exhaust pipe outlet attachment is not welded directly to the silencer/muffler.", then it will pass the inspection????

Not to the muffler directly but it's ok to weld on to the exhaust pipes after the muffler.

I guess you can can off the exhaust pipes after the muffler and leave 1/2 to 1" behind to weld your L/R exos piping!

If the Inspection Centre failed you, write to LTA Engineering and get them to comment or approve your setup.

You might even want to try to see them directly to enquire.

They are located in the next building to the main LTA building in Sin Min.

They have also inspection facility too.

Long time ago, I went to get approval from them for my W203 Lorinser muffler & L/R exos!
