Then the $188k question is: Toyota version or Subaru version? :P

Then the $188k question is: Toyota version or Subaru version? :P

That is an interesting question.

The 86 moniker is pure Toyota heritage together with the external design. It runs on Subaru sourced and developed mechanicals.

Rumour has it that Subaru will release an STi version of the BRZ. Toyota's TRD is ahead of the game as you can tell. Other rumours include Toyota releasing a supercharged version while Subaru will release a turbocharged version.

And yes for $188k, GT-R territory indeed. The only practical problem is GT-R drinks fuel by the barrel  and maintenance is well within continental semi-super car territory.

So, to answer your question - if I get an 86 it will either be black or white. If I fancy a blue, I'll go for the BRZ because the pink STi badge and blue paint is pure heritage.

I'd prefer the Toyota version myself...given how Subaru's last coupe was the SVX...

I'll give it a couple of years before all the go-faster bits get in as standard. Maybe then the yen would be at a more sane rate. I won't bite at $188k!

If I ever do get one, I'll just get the TRD version and keep it that way hehehe :D

Ackchualee hor, if you squint at the photos, can see a supra. Wonder how long before a supra bodykit comes out?

I trust Aussie reviews a tad more than the one-eyed pommie hacks (like top gear):
