Solar Film for windscreen and windows and to re-wrap steering wheel leather

Hello everyone!

I am happy to announce that I am starting to get a better feel of the temperament of my 'baby' (the grand dame). Initially really had difficulty just getting the car to move. Although I would concede that I do have alot more room for improvement from moving the car to accelerating in a silky smooth manner but I think I am doing not too bad. So please do not blast your horn at me if you see me and my 'baby' crawling off at a junction ok?

Thanks for global warming :angry3: the weather is just so hot. Want to install solar film for the windscreen and windows for my 'baby'. Any recommendation of a place that is good, honest and not so pricey? Would be great if anyone else here wish to install the same then we could possibly do 'group buy' and bargain for better price? PM me if you are interested.

Also, thinking of re-wrapping the steering wheel leather too (actually I have a long wish-list of to-dos e.g. change the car audio system -- right now is some 'cheapo' one emitting not music but 'noise', car rims to those similar to the set that one of the veterans' here have on the car he is selling at the 'Private Ad' section -- they look really awesome! etc). So, again would be grateful if veterans here can kindly point me to the right direction again need to be good, honest and not so pricey.

Many thanks once again from a newbie

For tinting, there's a shop at tradehub 21 that do it real cheap, and comments from ppl that have done it were that they were good. do a quick search here in this forum and you should be able to find it, shop is infra tint or something like that.

Rewrap steering, try 8 Cushion at alexandra village, heard they are good and cheap as well. BTW I'll be going over to rewrap my steering too!

Hello Tomo and NewC180,

Many thanks for the leads, can potentially save me some $! Thanks so much!

NewC180 -- what is the likely damage for Rewrap steering at 8 Cushion? ANy chance that they will give a better price with 'group-buys'?

Thanks.

Umm... sorry no idea what's the price. But I read in the 'other' forum that many guys went there and are very satisfied with the job and pricing, so I think it should be reasonable. Just google them and give them a call and check the price.

I'm waiting for my steering to come in, will go over sometime next week to check with them on my requirements. PM me if you wanna go together.

cheers!!!

thanks to infratint sherman....

U must have very good rear windscreen glass behind.

I had the blury look in the rear view mirror at nite for my W124. (1990)

When I had the W203, I asked the Huber Optic people, they told me it will be the same for my W203 as what I had experienced on the W124. That guy also told me that only the S Class windscreen were not affected.

I was told that this is due to the protruding heating wires on the rear windscreen. It is best to sun the car often after applying the tint film so that the films will have a better fit. So far I don't have this problem on my cars.

ok this one is good info and not ot post.

I drove over to 8 cushion at alexandra village today to enquire on steering wheel wrapping. cost of wrapping is only $200+, which is a steal. but no walnut trim, cf trim or whatever trim, just leather rewrapping. can wrap it thicker if that's what you like.

problem is, if you dont have a spare steering wheel, you can't drive your car for 1-2 days at least!

Hello,

Re-wrapping of steering wheel done. My hubby engaged Jackspeed (I think). They despatched someone to come collect the steering wheel from our place. Took only 1 day for them to do the job and the re-wrapped steering wheel was delivered back on the next day! Price = $200. Workmanship not bad but I thought the black looked a different shade of black compared to the original one. So now the steering wheel got two shades of black -- the new one round the rims and the centre portion (where the car horn is) is the original leather and a darker shade of black. Hmmm... I guess cannot really be perfect match.
