De-carbonising

Hi

I am a new owner of a SLK and my mechanic have been telling me that I need to bring the car up north and go for a long spin so that I can clear all the carbon.

Can anyone share some experience on this ?

Thanks and have a good day.

The experience of clearing carbon has been great for me.

We have fun driving while clearing carbon, have some food during stopover and back to SG.

I am a participant and never an organiser for such drive...but i have to say again it is really fun.

Check out the Events section....

Yes indeed after clearing carbon yr car becomes more torquey. Watch out for the event thread as there will be one coming soon.

I had never driven on NSH under 10km/hr too

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

I wasn't joking when I asked you to join me. Our sweeper will ensure you won't be the last car in the convoy and you won't get lost. He'll follow you at a speed you're comfortable.

Sorry for this noob question: jokes aside, what does "clearing carbon" actually means?

city driving will somehow accumulate carbon in your exhaust....the black black soot.

driving in NSH will allow drivers to rev longer, harder, safer and happier and at the same clear the carbon from our exhaust....hope this helps..

I once saw a cab came out of tunnel and going up slope on expressway "release" a lot of black carbon.... haha

wonder if the passenger's weight behind are causing the engine to over work.

does flooring the accelerator in park mode have the same "clear carbon" effect? :D

I think effect could be similar but how long can u ramp in park mode..

and bear in mind it is against NEA ruling to let the engine run/idle over i think 5 mins in park mode
