Freak Accident (And a painful one!)

Was returning home after fetching wife and kid from MIL's place as usual and parked. We alighted, got our stuff and when wife closed the door, we heard a loud thud as the door hit againist the wall and caused the silver strip on the door to bent.

The damage was on the the rear left door. We were puzzled as wife can opened the door when alighting with no prob, how come it kena the wall when closing?

We concluded that the car might have roll back abit after we have alighted (due to lesser weight) and caused the door clearance with the wall to reduce thus hitting the wall.

Now the silver strip on the door is bent up...see already also heart pain....sob!

Anyone know if I can just replace the strip? I am driving a W204.

Thanks

Oh my bro that looks nasty. Perhaps you may wish to check it out at C&C if they can just replace the strip. Ask for a quote first and if it's acceptable to you then proceed. Otherwise you can ask for second opinions on quote at outside workshops.

Initially I tot to replace the strip but on closer inspection this morning, it looks like at integrated part with the rubber seal and plastic of the door. Only worry now is whether water will leaked as there is a hole at that area. Haiz.

If there is a possibility of leak I suggest you quickly send it in for inspection and repair. Not sure if water can damage the electronics within the door...

Thanks bro...maybe go drop by C&C later...haiz...suay!

Anyway I learnt a lesson that if you can open the door doesnt mean you can close it..haha

I learned that do!

When car was parked - door was opened and closed without problem.

Came back to the parked car - open door - edge of door hit pillar. Building moved or my car moved

Look visit Ah Lye and see what he can do!

Quite a few of us do visit Ah Lye once in awhile! :)

Thanks for the recommendation! Will go get quote from C&C and Lye.

Guess either that the ground is not flat or that the Earth is spinning too fast which causes our cars to move..

C&C will probably quote you for a full replacement. Ah Lye will quote you for a repair.

Freak indeed. IMO, the mystery here is the ride height assuming the car didn't move. When she got out of the car, the car was raised back to its unladen height. The amount of ride height movement is proportional to the passenger's weight. Thus having cleared while opening may not necesary clear when closing. Best is move far away from wall.
