Rear left fog light dimmer than right.

Hi guys,

I realize my rear left fog light is way dimmer than my right. The bulb is in place and not fused but just producing very very dim light as compared to my right.

Why is that so?

Check your wiring harness.Pull the socket out and inspect

You are right...for Mercs, the rear fog lamp is only at the R side. The left is a dummy....no bulb. Some owners go about it by installing a bulb & wiring up thinking that it looks cool, but really...it's unnecessary & really irritating to drivers behind them.

I fog lamp at the rear is good enough. Otherwise these highly paid intelligent engineers in Germany would have settled for 2 fog lamps. Incidentally, it's illegal to have 2 rear fog lamps in Europe....go figure why.

I highlighted the same issue to C&C service advisor. Told me the same thing. Only one fog lamp. According to him, it's illegal to have both. Strange... I was behind a X5 during a downpour. It has two fog lamps, making the car very prominent during poor visibility.

I rarely on it even during rain, unless real heavy downpour. It is super bright especially at night and blinding for cars at your rear.

Yes. Rear fog lamp is only on the right. Explanation given was that having 2 rear fog lamp will create more confusion in a very poor visibility condition. If everyone has it only on the right, you will be able to estimate the car's displacement. Sounds logical.

In foggy and rainy days with low visibility, how would cars behind know which position you are if only 1 light? Other non European cars are having 2 lights.

In Europe, I notice all the cars only have one rear fog light on the driver's side.

Ie, Right hand drive car right rear fog light, left hand drive car left rear fog light.
