Hi!

Yes, planning to keep it for as long as humanly possible (actually is there a limit to how old a vehicle one can keep in Singapore?).

It is limited only by your willingness both mentally and financially. :batman: Once it hits 30 years, you can apply for classic car registration plates but this will only allow you to showcase your baby 30 days in a calendar year or something like that.

Hi, I'm new here and also looking for a W124. Comparing 8V & 16V versions. What are the pros & cons? I've tested a quite a few and 8V can feel more powerful then a 16V and vice versa. I guess it all depends how's the condition of the engine. Any other pro & cons of the 2? I'm hoping to get a renewed COE one to drive for the next 5yrs at least :)

depends on how its kept..8v mainly is slightly higer fuel consumption,16 valve will be younger and face lifted..some like 8V some like 16V..depends on urself actually..but hey..the w124 is made to last..but u have to remember the wear and tear parts..this type of things sure must change even though its meant to last..love it n it will not fail u. :punk1:

PS i have a wagon 16v for sale..looking for loving owner.. :whip2:

Thanks for the feedback. I've seen your TE many many times. But price is beyond my budget. So more looking towards a 8V unit.

1. how to diff of a 8v and 16v engine as i scared i kanna con by the salesman.

8V easier to maintain 16V parts more expensive

8V no airbag 16V got airbag

8V mostly older model pre92 16V is after 93 ... slightly younger

2. how big is the fuel tank?

dont know ... very big... i pump $50 still only half tank

3. wats the pcd of the wheel?

114.3

4. wats the top speed of this baby in ns highway?

dont know .. only hit 120 so far

5. how the road and wind noise?

road noise is dependent on the type of rubber used

wind noise ... slight bit ... bcos my rubber seals are old ... overall still a very comfortable ride

currently sourcing for a 2nd pc of W124 to add to my collection

6. since which year is the facelift?

94

7. overhaul engine and transmission cost ard how much?

Top overhaul estimated 1 to 1.5K

top and bottom overhaul is 3 to 5k

tranny is between 3 to 5k for a re-conditioned one ... 7 to 10k for a new one

2. how big is the fuel tank?

56 litres , on normal top-up

3. wats the pcd of the wheel?

shld be 120mm

4. wats the top speed of this baby in ns highway?

tried NS 210 km/h.....still got some more (16v)....no more guts.

8v model think 200km/h no prob.

Merc !! Highway no prob !!..... but just got keep a steady hand on the wheels and long fore-sight on approaching cars ; and also make sure your tie-rods are in good condition !

1. how to diff of a 8v and 16v engine as i scared i kanna con by the salesman.

Look at the engine model number on the front of the engine block. Usually found where the cam gears are located.

8 valve engines are designated with the code M102.96X

16 valve engines are designated with the code M111.9XX

Do beware that M102.920 and M102.924 are carburettor engines.

2. how big is the fuel tank?

Approx 70 litres

Approx 9 litres reserve

3. wats the pcd of the wheel?

5 x 120, offset is approx ET37 (dependent on which rim design you choose / deep dish / regular)

5. how the road and wind noise?

Bearable. :yumyum: Road noise will be quite decent for a car in it's late teens. If you're willing to drop a grand on insulation with dynamat, the effect will be pretty good.

6. since which year is the facelift?

Facelift from mid '93 to '95

7. overhaul engine and transmission cost ard how much?

Top overhaul of engine - $1k + - $2k

Complete overhaul of engine - high $3k + up

Overhaul transmission - mid $2k for complete and thorough job
