Suspect Main Pulley slip

Btw how old is your car?

Bro rx7effini, did you have similar sound/noise on you car before?

My car is about 10.5 years....I renewed COE in May16.

I was just hoping that it is just the tensioning pulley too loose when load increase (i.e. when a/c switch ON).

Anyone know which workshop got those "mechanical sound scope" which can accurately detect the location of the sound?

Yup. I renewed COE for mine.

I replaced all Pulley, bearings, tensioner & even Air con compressor still got sound 😭

after staring @ the engine for few hrs I saw my Main Pulley pretty worn out.

i did marking on the main Pulley & the rubber lining in between the Pulley.

Bingo it slipped, the marking went out of place.

After replacing the main Pulley to a brand new stock one.

Gone were the Crickets 👍👍👍

Whaooo...thanks for the info...I go check on my main pulley in the morning.

I also did some searching on internet, another "potential" problem on the E200 W211 engine is the timing chain.

Some overseas forum recommend to change it every 100,000 miles.

UPDATE on 18 FEB (1230hrs)

This morning, I did the marking test on the main pulley...bingo...my main pulley is slipping too...

Went down to Gallop to get the parts(main pulley, idler pulley, tensioner pulley) and changed at Sin Ming Workshop...total time taken less than 2 hours.

As the mechanic changing the pulley, he explained to me these..

The main pulley slip will affect the rest (i.e alternator, compressor, water pump, super charger etc etc),  as all these are run together on a single belt system.

With the replacement of the main pulley. I hope the car will run more efficiently without power loss due to belt slippage.
