Hi Kakis

For your information.

Dear Sir/Madam ,

VEHICLE BEARING EUROPEAN (EU) LICENCE PLATE

FEEDBACK NUMBER: 428818

1. Thank you for your feedback of 26/10/2006.

2. We wish to inform you that the technical requirements for vehicle

licence plates permitted in Singapore can be found in Rule 15 and the

Fourth Schedule of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and

Licensing) Rules. In summary, the arrangement of letters and numerical

figures on the licence plate of a motor car must meet the following

requirements:

(a) the letters and numerical figures are 70 mm high, 50 mm wide and 10

mm broad;

(B) the space between adjoining letters and between adjoining numerical

figures shall be 10 mm;

© the space between the letters and numerical figures shall be 20 mm;

(d) a margin between the nearest part of any letter or numerical figure

and the top or bottom of the number plate shall be 10 mm;

(e) a margin between the nearest part of any letter or numerical figure

and the sides of the number plate shall be 20 mm; and

(f) where the letters and numerical figures are arranged in 2 rows, the

space between top and bottom row should be 15 mm.

3. In addition, the vehicle licence plates are required to comply with

either of the following requirements:

(i) Letters and figures are white, silver or light grey on a non-

reflective black background for both front and rear; or

(ii) Letters and figures are blackground on a white reflective

background for the front, and on a yellow reflective background for the rear.

4. It is an offence for a person to install licence plates that do not

comply with the requirements. Offenders are liable, upon conviction, to

a fine of up to $1,000 or a jail term of up to three months for the first

offence. Repeated offenders are liable, upon conviction, to a fine of

up to $2,000 or jail term of up to six months.

5. We have no objection to the European Union licence plates as long

as it comply with the above requirements.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Yours sincerely,

(SIGNED IN LOTUS NOTES)

Thank God now there's official approval. So next time I can send my car to VICOM without the darned inspectors trying to find fault with my Euro plates and threatening to fail me because of that. >:(

I've been on Euro plates in German fonts for the past 2 years now. So far never had trouble with TP or ROV. Just the darned VICOM know-it-alls.

I think the 6 pot brakes transplanted from SLK. Read something about this somewhere.

Hi 911, are the plates made of plastic or aluminium? Also do i have to use white for the front and yellow behind for the plates to be legal is there such a requirement?

Hey Shag,

The plates are made of aluminium. Yes you gotta use white/yellow combi in order for it to be "legal". If your auspicious car number consists of 3 alpha, 3 numeric and 1 alpha, you can probably get them to squeeze it on the plate using the legal font.

For common folk like me with the regular 3 alpha, 4 numeric and 1 alpha combi I had to use the German font(which does not exactly comply with regulation).

You also gotta use a licence plate holder too.

If that's the case then i think they should be able to fit it in it's 2 alpha 4 num and 1 alpha.

Btw can i call in to place my order or do i have to go down to place my order?

both dial & me had done the euro using the alum type.

also with the euro fonts too.

actually IMHO, these euro plates regardless of fonts, they are still able to be read even at night! as compared to those chromes types.

the ROVs/TPs should get those chromes more than euros as they are not been able to be read esp at night, a la able to siam camera la.. (to all those members with chrome fonts, FORGIVE ME)
