How to still watch DVD movie on my Command Screen when car is moving

Recommended Posts

My new ride E Coupe can watch DVD movie but when the car moves, it will automatically blank out the screen as program by factory for safety reasons. I heard there are devices that u can override that - Made in China cost $200+ & Made in Korea cost $500+, incl installation. Anyone has idea on pricing, how it works n reputable installer?

VIM (or Video In Motion) devices are very common. It allows you to watch DVDs while the car is in motion.

Just get the cheapest one (with at least shop warranty) and get it installed professionally.

Note: On some Mercs, it may affect your Navigation. I.e. you need 'motion' for Nav to work.

But you can usually press some buttons on the dash to disable the VIM.

Called Elebest and they quoted $350 and claim its Made In Germany. Any diff between Origin China, Korea or Germany?

Also currently when surfing the net using the command screen, its also blank out when car is moving. After install VIM, will it override this function and able to surf on the command screen?

Yes! You will be able to take away the nag screen but when VIM is activated, it might affect your navigation!

Cheers

Check with Elebest and Auto Spritz ( Boon). Elebest quoted $350 and claim its Made in Germany.

According to Auto Spritz, they say it could be Made in China and order from Germany suppliers. He Is against Made in China VIM as he claim there is no switch to change between Navi and DVD Player. He is also doubtful on the quality and he don't want to install a Made in China product as he don't want to have to do troubleshooting later. His is Made in Korea and it cost $550 !! He also claim that many Mercs, Bently and other luxurious marques has installed and no problems so far.

Confused...

Not cheap to just only tweak each feature for our dear Merc.  Better selecting the options when placing order with PI.  But some need to tweak after collection, e.g. VIM, Navi Maps, TV Mobile, etc .... haizzz ... all seems good to have.

Never try. If watch dvd n need to use navi, jus need to get out of dvd n go navi. Dont see any problems.

Sometimes, family are watching DVD, the driver need to see navigation instruction, which can be seen in the instrument cluster(speedo). This is a very good feature for Comand. You can use the steering wheel button to turn to "Navi". But if you need to press an extra button to toggle the function of VIM and navigation, that means can not use them in the same time. I don't know is this this true. If yes, you got an extra button(usually people don't like) and lost this nice feature. Because ours no need extra button and navigation and vim works simultaneously.

My steerng doesnt have a navi button.

I think what Max meant is for you to use the "menu" button located on the left side of your steering wheel to enter into the Navigation mode on your instrument cluster (next to your spedometer).

The navigation function should still be working whilst the screen on your entertainment console may be showing your movie.
