Safe to drive to Malaysia ?

Doc

Recommended Posts

Recently, soon after I got my E250, told one of my friends I planning to drive to Malacca, he said not safe :-((

Been more than 10 years since I last drove to Malaysia ...

Appreciate views of members here on whether safe to drive to Malaysia, Malacca in particular , esp with a Merc.

Also appreciate any tips on a safe and good drive up to Malacca.

Thanks in advance for yr comments & tips . Thanks !!!!!

I am working in JB and now driving a E250 too.

Driven up north many times over the years,

Park at places there are not too dimly lighted.

If you are parking in open space, don't go too far from your ride.

Best if hotels or malls have mscp. (Not too easy for tow trucks to access)

Always pay attention to your surroundings!

Last drive to Melaka was last year.

Prefer to park in hotel basement car park and near to Jonker Streets.

Did more walking and drive only when necessary!

Have a safe trip!

In addition to the sop mentioned above, I also have steering lock and a big padlock that comes with motion sensor.

While it may not stop the most determined car thief, the looks of it may probably divert the attention to the car beside mine ;-)

I thought merc car can only start w the key?

If they use tow car then steering lock may not work. :(

Well....

My family have been driving int and out of Malaysia with Merc for more than 20 years, covering almost every state, big town , small town of malaysia all the way up to Ipoh.

We do not ever encounter any incident of theft or what so ever. nothing different from driving a Honda Jazz to malaysia or Diri riving a S class to malaysia.
I ever  left my key in the car boot in JB  Legoland and unable to open the boot and left my car there for 1 night and no issue as well. -Enter-

Just becareful on the road  there is no different in driving in singapore or malaysia

The only incident was when we were in Ipoh in 2003 that we met a planned accident by a 4WD with crash bar. They ram our rear causing quite a damage to the vehicle. 2min later a tow truck come. Well we managed to drive the car back to singapore and managed to claim from their insurance back than we were driving a W211 E200

Other than that we do not encounter any incident. Its the same as driving in singapore or malaysia

I was on told by many car workshop . One of which is a pro retired professional car jacker. He said one thing. which I remember to date. Its much easier to jack a japanese car than a  Conti car. If u know what is a immobilizer  its very easy to get the immobilizer to start the car engine and drive off. But conti car is unable to do so and even they jack the car its no use to them, as replacing they keys requires log card which jap car do not require so.

So its safe to drive into malaysia

If u read on car theft news its normally targeted on Jap car not conti cars

Just to be safe..... There was one period which they place spikes in front and behind of the car Tyre to cause a flat Tyre to the car and after which they rob the car , just watch out of that.

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

Just came back from a v nice trip to Malacca

Took the 2nd link instead of the causeway even though the causeway would hv been nearer my home as that allowed me to avoid passing through the JB town

Drove all the way non-stop to Malacca, didn't want to and didn't find any need to stop along the way.

Booked a nice hotel in Malacca and parked at the hotel secured basement carpark where there were many Sg cars and of which most were luxury makes

All in all, had a really great trip, enjoyed the shopping & eating in Malacca and also enjoyed the drive to and from Singapore.

Would do it again :-))))
