Fuel consumption

Happy Chinese New Year to all Chinese friends! I'm having this problem on my '04 E200. My fuel consumption has suddenly shot up to the roof since last night. My driving style usually clocks me 10-11L/100km, but the past 2 days the consumption suddenly shot up to 16-17L/100km with the same city driving that I usually do. And when idling at the traffic light waiting for the lights to go green it can increase by 0.1-0.2 which is quite aggressive even while idling. Any help I can get from the more laojiao drivers? Thanks in advanced!

my advice is you should monitor the actual consumption ... could be a temporary error of input info* to the ecu

*base on logic .. fuel consumption should be computed with the inputs from fuel tank level(or some fuel flow meter) against odometer ... but i suspect there may be more input for the computation ...

higher fuel consumption with lost in power indicates something is not right with o2 sensor also ..

does not make a lot of sense but hope it helps somehow ...

Hello Z. I drove up south to Ayer Hitam and the consumption actually went down to 8.8L/100km at about 130-140kmph when the last time I drove at around the same speed with the same load it was actually 12.6L/100km. I did my research and the most efficient speed to travel at is 80-90kmph so actually that speed should clock about 6ish 7L/100km. And going more than that would consume more. So I don't understand how driving at 130-140 would clock 8.8L/100km.

Higher speed, higher rev, thus higher consumption....

I have also drove north for over 500km, speed ranges from 80 to 160, best consumption is 7.5L/100km.

Back to sin with Customs jam, consumption is about 7.9L/100km.

I am driving a 2005 C200 W203 with 17" stock, my average consumption is 10.2L/100km for 10,000km. (50% city, 50% highway)

my observation is that during warm up, it can indicate 10/11l per 100km ... but after about 10 mins or more of travel, it can drop to 8.0 per km on normal highway driving ... after turn off to small road, it can still maintain 8.0 km per 100 km though traffic is slower and sometimes the traffic light ....

from this, i think the reading serves serves as a guide only ...

btw i am driving a 2007 c200k ... i do about 9 to 9.5 km per litre 100 km ... depending on how much high way driving

What?! This don't look that good to me. I started the car and its already at 14+L/100km and just from the cp to the mainroad which is less than 1km it already went up to about 15-16L/100km. Seems I'm kinda f***ed till I scrap this one man.

lol ...

i feel the reading are not "real time" ... you should monitor the distance travelled against the amount of fuel you put in, that is more accurate

check your tire pressure (I pump front 220 and rear 230) .. it can affect fuel consumption ...

Car: 2012 FL W204 1.6L C180cgi

Wheels/Tyres : 225/45/17 stock with CSC3 tyres

Tyre Pressure: 220kPa or 32psi

Highway best attained at 80 kmhr on left lane - 4.9L/100km or 20.4km/L (see below)

Real life best attained over 3 1/2 days of driving for 5 hours including highway, normal road, causeway jam

6.4L/100km or 15.6km/L

If refuel from full tank add another 0.3L/100km

6.7L/100km or 15km/L

Usual real life average 7.0L/100km or 14.2km/L

Change wheels and tyres to staggered AMG Tye IV

Front remains 225/45/17

Rear 245/45/17

Broader Tyres - more contact, more rolling resistance.

Real Life average moves up from 7.0L/100km to 7.4L/km or 13.5km/L

So going up to 18 or even 19 expect FC to increase

Wanna to decrease further - go for puny 16" or even 15" - Road holding compromise

imho Driving style main influence on FC

Happy Driving!

These figures are obtained from my driving style (light on the gas pedal & don't brake unless necessary) & daily driving from

7.00am Pasir Ris --> TPE (slow traffic after Jl Kayu) --> SLE --> BKE --> Causeway--> EDL --> Tampoi JB (7.45am) -->38km

6.00pm Tampoi JB (jam on causeway singapore) --> BKE --> SLE (slow traffic) --> TPE--> Pasir Ris (7.15pm) --> 312356915103_c539af9aee_b.jpg8km

after monitoring for a few days, infact is an estimation based on accumualated travelling.

Actually the reading xxxl/100km is a reflection of "lifetime" FC  while xxkm/h is the average speed for the distance travelled based on amount of time travelled.

The are actually 2 ways for you to monitor the FC/distance travelled/time used. One i think is "From start" and the other one is "From re-set".

it shows average FC, Speed and total travel time since you last reset it.

sounds confusing but if you play with the down button on the steering wheel, you can access it. To re-set that particular page, just press ok and select yes.

Suggest use for this - one you reset after engine service, other one maybe re-set on a monthly basis(weekly). You can then monitor the FC from your last service and one on weekly/monthly basis.

(My average based on highway and city driving - 10l/100km over a few hundred km travelled)

If I am not wrong 4hrs it would restart itself

I think "From Start" resets itself after switching off your car engine for X hours. Not sure how many hours exactly but this meter resets every morning for me.

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

This is true but also depends on models, the older models need to press the R button at the dashboard at least for my W220 and W210

correction for some info

Yes correct, the from starts does re set itself after certain time (a few hours) i just observed ...

The "since reset" mode  can be use for long term monitoring ...

NOTE to OP

I figure a way to check on the spot your FC .... while driving (please make sure it is safe), go to since start mode and press ok to reset the current reading ... within a few second, you will see some new reading ... those would be your "true" fc for "that given moment" ....

regards

lz
