Recommended Posts

my left side wing mirror intermintently does not tilt down in reverse gear even having done the following ...

- left adjustment mirror button selected on reverse gear

- "exercise" the mirror by moving it max travel of up/down, left right.

Need to change the whole wing mirror to rectify this problem ?

thx

You seem to have done the right thing in setting the reverse side mirror.

Changing the wing mirror solves the mechanical movement which i do not think its an issue with yours now.

More like unstable software controlling the unit from my guess.

Perhaps a trip to a workshop to rectify the root cause maybe a clearer option.

All the best in getting it fixed.

Yes. The left wing mirror lights up. (btw just for info sake - to set the desired position of the tilt down, in reverse mode, select left wing mirror to desired tilt position then select "M" then down arrow of the adjustment pad.)

Problem is it works wells at times. After a while,  when in reverse gear, it does not tilt to the set position.Even when it works, it does not go tot he correct set tilt positon or back to the correct original position. It seems that it cannot remember the programmed down and up position. Maybe my wing mirror is starting to have dementia. lol.

Yes my car have memory seats.

mine is a 2007 ... time to change the part ?

Honestly, yes. The W204 has a terrible build quality IMO. So many things that go wrong from mirrors to tail lights etc. I actually try to not use that function to prolong the life of the mirror. However my wife needs to use it and she forgets to turn it off so I end up using it too by accident.

U can use memory setting. 1 wifey 2 yrself 3 mistress lolz

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

Memory setting will not turn off the mirror tilt when in reverse, to do that you need to select the driver side mirror. I think you can change just the motor but CnC will probably still charge you alot. Best to find a wholesale parts dealer and take to independant shop.

lol on the replies we have here. Really good to have folks that jokes around to make mondays past faster.

Back to TS Question....only upon diagnostic or through experience will the mechanic be able to advise.

My mirrors only issue with Merc is it squeks like lau pok car whenever it folds when locking door.

The mechanic did oiling....change dunno what....in the end, still the same when mine is under warranty.

So i suggest you bring in to a workshop you trust and have it check.

Goodluck...hopefully it doesnot cost much to resolve your issue on hand.

I've tried that also, first time with WD40 and second time I took apart the mirror housing and applied automotive grease. For a while I didn't get the squeek when folding in but then it came back, I thought maybe the grease dried up but when I took apart the housing again I found the grease still quite........greasy. So I just turned off the auto fold feature since I try to park away from other cars anyways. Plus I manually fold in whichever mirror is more likely to be damaged depending on where I park.

The OP is saying that his passenger side does NOT tilt down when he reverses even though it is selected.
