Hello, I merc newbie, need advice on changing grill and insignia

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am a newbie, 1st time merc owner

Just bought a 3 yr old E250 advantgarde ( W212 )

I really wanted to change the grill , asked the agent who sold me the car and he advised strongly against it and said it wld not look nice for avantgarde ( unlike AMG ) and shld keep the traditional Mercedes insignia and grill

But I really keen to remove the standing MB insignia and replace it w a flat badge and also change the grill to one with the big insignia on the grill ..

Need advice from all the veterans here

1. Is the agent correct that it will not look nice if I change the insignia and grill ?

2. Any recommendation on reliable workshops to get this done and how much ?

Thanks! Kum SIA !

Hi

Welcome

1. looks is subjective, if you like it that way, just change

keep the original parts with you and if later on you dont like it, can revert back to normal

Personally, I dont like the big star grille on E class, even on the facelifted W212

For E class. I prefer the traditional way as a bigger Mercedes Saloon should. You dont see S class with Big star grille. but thats just me.

2. There are site sponsors for this

Hope you enjoy your ride

Hey retiefgoosen

Thanks so much for yr reply ! That was fast !

The first reply to this first-time owner's first post in sgmerc

Thanks !!!

That's what the agent said also .... This E250 avantgarde is loved for its traditional Merc look and is not sporty enough to hv the newer grills unless it is an AMG.... :-(((

I searched through this forum re: where to replace the grills and most ppl's replies is that many of the site sponsors have them .... But I look at the site sponsors , I errrr dunno which of them sells grills or does replacement of grills.....can point out a few specific ones to me to ask ??

Anyone here got a W212 E250 avantgarde who has the grill and insignia changed too ??

Thanks !!

You can compare the looks for yourself.

Our sponsor PH Trading use to have grills, don't know if they still have it now. You can enquire with blackmercs.

If not, you can also enquire with Sonic Racing.

Sponsors specialising in body kits should also carry the grill:

CarbonRevo, GMS, J's Magic, McWell, Miracle Workz

Hey Markcwq

thks for the b4 & after modification pics, looks great

Still quite like the modified Big Star in grill one over the traditional classic one

I know most ppl thinks a E class saloon shld retain its classic looks and grill & wld look odd witha modified 'Big Star' gril

understand it is v subjective and ultimately it boils down to individual preferences

but wld really like to know the views & opinions on this from merc veterans like you in sgmerc

your preference & recommendation would be ?

how abt the other merc veterans ? Wld love to listen to yr views and recommendations on this too !!

Thanks !!!

As retiefgoosen mentioned looks are very subjective. I personally would prefer the sportier looking big star grill, and there are many members here that have gone for that look. At the end of the day it's your money, if you really like it just go for it. If you get sick of it, you can always revert back to the standing star. There's nothing stopping you!

FYI, the W212 pre-facelift coups and cabriolets all come with the big star as standard.
