Foul Smell when Reaching 120??

Hi I m new to Merc driving a c180 1.6 why is there a foul smell like burning when I reach abt 120km/h in the cabin?? Pls advice.

Like rotten egg smell? Coming from cat - sulphur dioxide

I have this problem since I first discovered it about 1 year later. Still no solution. C&C service advisor told me to open the vent to reduce the smell.

This issue has been discussed many times in the forum, do a search.

The smell does not come from reaching 120km/h. But rather you rev the engine to reach 120.

Had this smell for my previous B and C class. Seems like nothing can be done.

Is it from air con? Switch the air con mode to auto it will helps to clear the smell. Fuel smell from the rear likely leaked in the gas compartment area.

I dont think its from the aircon.

They used to replace the "enhance flap" on my B . It did reduce the smell though.

No idea too TS didnt mentioned what kinda of smell. Who knows maybe come from tyres or road tarmac during wheel spin till 120!!

This reminds me of over steering smell....haha .... Guess BM would be the best to advise you.

That is the smell of the Automatic Transmission Fluid or ATF.

 

The smell happens at higher RPM when the fluid starts to heat up and the volatile chemicals are released by the gear box vent that is under the center console. The only way is to add an ATF cooler or just keep driving the car at high RPM and loads until the smell dies down.
