W211 E class fuel leak problem - Widespread issue!

Recommended Posts

I started smelling fuel outside of my car after a full tank refill. The smell is strongest at the wheel arch on the passenger side. THe smell would go away after the fuel levels goes below 3/4. I thought this was an isolated issue but doing a google search, people in the US are filing a class action suit to get MB to issue a recall.

Has anyone in Singapore had this problem and has MB fixed it? The repair cost in the US is around the region of $2000 USD. Not sure of the price in Singapore but I shall be going to the dealer very soon.

Check out the websites. If we can get more publicity then perhaps MB singapore will assist.

Bro, W211 has that inherent problem... I got mine fixed by C&C FOC. What I understood from my SA was the problem was with the fuel tank seal under the rear seat. You need to drive in to MB Pandan quickly and speak with the SA about this. I can't recall if I got it done while under warranty or otherwise. Good luck!!!

Hi bro,

I experienced exactly the same fuel smell problem a short while after servicing at a place recommended by some people in SGMERC. I was appalled when the agent ask me to change the tank. Now that I know it's a common problem, shouldn't C&C do a recall? Maybe we should ask LTA.

Hi all,

My ride is a 08 W211 E230. This is my 1st time posting but Have been reading n gained a lot of useful tips about merc from this forum.

My car was recently sent in to CnC for the petrol smell problem as mentioned above. No change of tank but just merely replacement of fuel filter mounting and fuel hose. Phew..didn't burn a big hole in the pocket. Car was in for 3 days though together with major servicing.

Hope my experience helps.
