I believe it depends on a few factors such as age, driving experience, claim history, profession, etc.

ya lor.. 8 years experience but under 30yrs old.. kena group in young and inexperienced category.. talk about factors... i think Marital Status also plays a part.. can anyone verify? Profession those work in office environment one should be cost lesser than those who do sales (more time on the road)

Go source around, shouldnt be hard. Mine lagi worst, not much wanna cover coupes.

ya, I activated my contacts already :) and yea that is 1 of the reason why the C180 coupe and sedan same price now, but I still chose the sedan :P

Can try RSA... My previous ride C4 GP was quoted 20-25% cheaper than others... And They honour Ad warranty too...

That's funny...my direct Chartis quote was higher than C&C Chartis quote. My broker told me C&C should have 10% discount than if I were to get it directly from Chartis.

C&C direct is called Auto Protector, u can go back to C&C for repair for next 10 years.

Outside from agent is called Auto Plus, only 1st 3 yrs from registration can go back to C&C, after dat only Chartis Authorized workshop, therefore premium cheaper.

There're more than this, pls ask ur agent to explain.

It could be ur broker quote u Auto Plan. Auto Plan can go back to C&C or own workshop for repair anytime for 10 yrs from registration. Ur broker want to match Auto Protector from C&C offer, but usually C&C cheaper.

If I am not wrong Chartis offers a new car replacement during first year in case of a total loss claim.

Personally I would keep Chartis up to when my warranty expires as I would like to be assured that any repairs are done with authentic parts which would be the case as CnC is the authorised repair centre and my warranty will not be affected. Also CnC will take care of the whole claim procedure. To me peace of mind is important after an accident.

This is called New-for-Old replacement, but correction, total loss upon accident ONLY, car stolen not covered, pls read ur contract.

coupe insurance sure higher mah... so not really about there leh.. maybe due to my age... me below 30.. nowadays they classify below 30 people as young and inexpereinced driver sian

It is called EYIDR, Elderly (above 65), Young (below 23) & Inexperience Driver (less than 2 yrs driving experience). These group of ppl besides higher premium, additional Excess in additional to the policy Excess.

Any idea on how much is the insurance for new E200? didnt secure a COE from last bidding.

My last 523I F10 insurance was 1800

50 % ncd

Car ins premium not only based on wat car & how much NCD, it also about, Age, Marital status, occupation (indoor/outdoor), yrs of driving exp, claims in last 3 yrs, if got claim wat is d claim amount? Different claim amount will hv different loading. Usually more than 2 accident in last 3 yrs most insurer decline to quote.

For my case (C180 1.6T), the SA offered Chartis and MSIG (via C&C broker). I took up MSIG in the end... around $2400, 20% NCD and 29 years old. No previous claims.

It's better to get insurance where you can opt to repair the car in C&C. At least for the warranty period...just touchwood in case any thing happen.

Hi All,

Collected my E200 Elegance @ 27th Oct 2012, was upgraded from a C200K, 2008.

While the SE was trying to push me the CHARTIS insurance, which was like $2200.00 with 50% NCD. I rejected it and ask for a 2nd quote.

Two days time, he come back to me with MSIG MotorMax Plus, at $1358.56 Annual Premium, c/with

a) Own Damage Excess: $500.00,

b ) Windscreen Excess: Market Value,

c) Workshop For Accident Repairs: ANY,

d) Transport Allowance: $50.00 per day up to 10 Days,

e) Young & Inexperienced Driver Excess: Increased to $3000 (age <= 26),

f) NCD protector: Yes.

Sounds quite alright for me, but I still got him to try for Tenet, my previous insurance company for the C200k.

Three days later, he came back to me with Tenet, at $1319.31 Annual Premium, c/with

a) Own Damage Excess: $600.00,

b ) Windscreen Excess: Market Value,

c) Workshop For Accident Repairs: ANY,

d) Transport Allowance: $100.00 per day up to 14 Days,

e) Young/Inexperienced Driver Excess: Increased to $1500/$3000 (age <= 25),

f) NCD protector: Yes, 1st claim 50%, 2nd claim 20%.

Common practice is three quotes in the market; Among all those clauses, i think NCD protector is quite important.

Your can always get your own insurance agent, just need to pass them the C&C SE contact number, they will know what to do.

Hope the above info helps :)

Personally felt NCD Protector is not important becos it only protect ur NCD if u renew with them. E.g. If there's a claim by right ur NCD reduced to 20%, if u switch insurer, then it won't be at 50%, it'll based on supposedly 20%, so why lock urself with d insurer?

The 3.1k my broker quoted can repair at any workshop. So I believe this is the auto plus.. because I specifically told my broker I need to be able to repair with C&C (just in case of warranty issues). Supposed this is the case.. and the one C&C offered is also Auto Plus.. but at 3.3k then i feel something is not right.. lol

C&C offered Auto Protector, only C&C can sell tis plan to their customers. If u get quote from Chartis agent outside, he/she can only quote Auto Plus or Auto Plan. If ur broker quoted Auto Plus, then u can repair with C&C for 1st 3 yrs from registration only, after dat u can't. If ur broker quoted Auto Plan, full 10 yrs can repair with C&C, premium higher.

What insurance u want is your choice. Since no requirement for in-house insurance, u can get any insurer to quote. If you go thru CnC, benefits incudes Mercedes courtesy car. Other insurer pay $ x/day subject to min 3 days I think. Most policies cover 1 for 1 during the first year of coverage from original registration date in event of total loss.

If you choose other insurer, please get "any workshop" so u still can go to CnC. Premium is 1 thing, do check. Others may quote lower, but do note the excess differs. Chartis is $800, others maybe higher or lower depending in driver profile. You also need to coordinate and ask insurer to issue cover note with the correct effective date and pass your SE the original doc then they can register. U can ask the insurer to courier to your but they will charge u. If u want to take Chartis, get your SE to do it. Otherwise, u got to arrange yourself thru the agent / broker.

I did the insurance on my own.. troublesome but worth it for lower premium and excess. Lastly, do check that the excess for "young and inexperienced drivers" or "elderly drivers". Different excess may apply if this may be of yur concern. I think somewhere in this site got a special tie up if u are on DBS loan for MSIG. Not sure if this is still in place. I read it somewhere but that was an old post.

  • 2 weeks later...

Chartis called me today for my insurance renewal. I had previously received a mailer but did not respond to it as there was still time. Today I told the lady over the phone that I'm still thinking about renewing with Chartis as it was still a month away to road tax renewal.

The response I got was an offer to reduce my premium by $200 if I did not want to cover drivers below 40. Thinking that it is highly unlikely I will let anybody else drive my car I decided to take up the offer.

Just thought I'd share this. YMMV.
