Recommended Posts

guys, really bad day today. a big bike hit my rear when I slowed down as the car in front slowed to take his right turn.

dented the boot and bumper. part of the kompressor came off.

like to find out from u guys. does c n c give courtesy car, and how long it typically take to repair such damages?

Courtesy car:

As for how long, it's very hard for us to tell. We don't know how badly damaged your car is. Externally might look fine but internal parts might be damaged etc. The Service Agents at the service centre would be in a better position to advice you on the ETA.

Check yr insurance policy. Chartis covers this free rental of mercedes when u claims against the other party.

am with auntie lucy...and replacement car rental is not mentioned in the policy :-(

does it mean that cnc will not provide the car even if the repair 'business' is given to them?

sibeh sian... 无枉之灾.

dickhead wasn't paying attention and hit me. probably followed too closely.

I had accident with my previous B class, someone parked illegally on residential road and open driver's door without checking, I lost my left mirror and dented passenger front door. Car down in Pandan look for 1 week plus.

I was with Chartis (last time was called AIG) I can choose for rental car (I got A class rental car last time) or taxi reimbursement $30/day to up 14 days. I chose rental car.

Yes forget about reimbursement I only got $60/day. Better chose rental car if you claiming 3rd party.

Hijack this thread: so what is the right thing to do? Shift or don't shift in event of accident?

I waited till TP arrives then seek his permission b4 shift the car to the side of the road. Is better this way in case tio dispute like someone die etc :). Mine is a minor case if major one better dont do anything leave it to the authorities.

Uaually if no injuries, quickly take pictures of accident cars & surroundings & try ur best to get witnesses, then shift ur car away. If got ppl injured, not supposed to move ur vehicles unless got TP permission.

just got it clarified.. i am claiming the other party.. so it doesn't matter if my policy has car or not.

so, i would just get a car and bill it towards the other party's policy for loss of use.

one question here.. does cnc have any car rental with them, or i have to rent it outside from places like hertz?

should at least get back a replacement c-class right?

my accident has been reported and assessed.

as i don't want to claim myself first, no repair has started yet, pending the insurance company's internal liability decisions.

was told it will take around a week :startle:

very sian... boot now cannot close...now using cable ties to hold it in-place.

now i realize why sometimes i see cars with 'chiam see dong' with cable ties, ropes, masking tapes etc on the road.. they don't want to claim themselves..

here's what happened to me..hope this helps

injury case.

1. call 999. tell the guy got an accident at xxx location

2. tell them to dispatch ambulance as there's someone injured

3. don't shift car, on hazard light and put triangle sign

4. call your insurance company to report accident.. get instructions from them

5. wait... talk to the injured if conscious, don't move him or give water. ambulance arrive in 10 minutes, traffic cops will arrive shortly after

6. paramedic will settle the injured on their arrival. meantime, take pictures of the accident scene (since there;s nothing else to do and u cannot go anywhere). the other party's car/bike plate, brand, model, contact no if possible*

7. the cops will arrive.. they will ask for your ID and particulars. just provide when necessary

8. wait until given the okay by the cops to move the car

9. continue to wait for instructions from the cops. they will ask more info, and then tell u go make police report.

10. make police and IDAC reports within 24hrs

* you can also ask the cops after they have done their info collection. of course, don't wait till everyone leave the scene then call 999. the dispatch center may not know.

btw, they will also have an IO assigned to u.. be sure to ask for the name if they don't give u (the cop gave me the info in a card.. the name, accident location, time, vehicle plate numbers)

actually auntie lucy dispatched a rider to assist me (i was really surprised!) arrived within 15minutes. this guy helped collect the info, photos and filled for me insurance forms for IDAC.

if your insurance co don't do these, you got to do it yourself.

for non-injury

i believe just take picture FIRST then shift aside and continue to take each other's particulars, or settle on the spot.

no need to call the cops as there isn't injury or no government vehicle involved.

one thing sibeh heng.. i got in-car camera.

the accident spot don't allow right turn.

the car in front slowed to a stop as he wanted to right turn

i also slowed to a stop waiting for him to complete his turn. nobody jammed brake. just slowed gracefully.

then the bike hit me..he was probably in lala land.. didn't pay attention and/or speeding.

and the car in front just went off with his turn. bochap. :growl:

so, without the camera as evidence, i may be accused of attempting to make that turn when i was actually going straight (got stuck behind the guy who violated the rule)

The guy in front of you might get into trouble now!

thanks.. thought of sharing this.. i have not encountered one with injury throughout my over 20yrs driving.

in fact my legs were wobbly jelly at that time. wife and kids also in the car.

lucky in an unlucky situation, many bystanders came to help and offered advice, and everything went smooth for me.

auntie lucy's guy also helped a lot. he settled the IDAC thingy on the spot. i don't actually need to get my damage assessed at IDAC workshop today and got my report in early morning.

Nice writeup.

If you claim against third-party, think got a clause in the insurance contract that you cannot proceed with repairs unless the third-party insurer has inspect/assessed or given the approval. Without it, your claims might be prejudiced; ie might not claim in full.

As for insurance, I think in-house have courtesy car. I didn't take in-house so not sure. If u go outside take Chartis, got to pay additional to get courtesy car benefit I think. That time I check Chatis online quote got to pay abit more.

thanks for your reply. yes, was told by the guy at cnc that i have to wait for insurance company to complete their assessment first before they proceed with the repairs..unless i claim myself first, of which i didn't want.

so now driving with a boot held only by a cable tie..

good to hear that they have courtesy car for this purpose. thanks..

i would have thought that idac would be the indepedent assessor. Thus idac would review the damage and note down for both insurers. I was hit on the behind last year, and once cleared idac, i went to the AD to repair. Took 3 days to repair the boot and change bumper.

thanks bro sapporobier for your input.

did you get a courtesy car at cnc, or they just give u $50 to settle the transport yourself?

i've also got loads of stuff in the boot.. quite siong to carry them up to my house.. thought of just transferring from car to car.. if they provide a courtesy car

right now still waiting for them to call me when they have completed their assessment/report..

That was my vw, kanna hantum behind at zebra crossing. I made the guy sign off in black and white he hit my behind while I stopped at zebra crossing. VWC said standard $30 per day. I was thinking WTF, $30 not even enough to take taxi to go work and go home. Cannot argue for more.

I had another previous experience where a work shop gave me $70 a day, I also kanna rammed while parked at car park. Where the case is clearly obvious that is no fault of yours, some workshop willing to repair for you first and claim from the "offending" party's insurance.

  • 4 weeks later...

thought of giving an update to my case.. the other guy made his report and the cnc sa proceeded to make the arrangements.. for repair and a rented a car for me. supposed to be an altis.. not a merc as i had hoped for.

anyway, any decent car is good enough.

all these will be claimed into the other guy's insurance.

overall spent 10 days in the workshop.
