Query on Reverse Indicator

CHT

Recommended Posts

Hi, when I put my W211 into reverse gear, I notice in my rear view mirror, a reflection of a numbered indicator flanked by 2 triangles/arrows at the top centre of the rear windscreen. I know this relates to the reverse proximity sensors during reversing but would like to understand how to interprete and use the numbers. Any help in explanation will be much appreciated, thanks.

The numbers indicate the distance between the obstacle and your bumper. When it indicate 0, the beeping sound will become a single tone, meaning you are touching the obstacle liao. If blank means no obstacle. The uom is in feet.

The numbers are for distance from bumper to rear object and every brand of reverse sensors works differently.

Example for my c class, the numbers will range from 1.1,1, 0.9- 0.0.

For my e class, it's a countdown from 100 to 1.

So do a test run at any indoor car park to gauge a good parking gap from wall and always stop around that number! :D

Hope it helps.

I have the number indicator too. My SE told me it's the available distance to any obstruction object in the rear in CM.

I just use the reverse camera if I need to gauge any obstacles while reversing. Never used the indicator and feel its actually quite inaccurate.

If you see numbers, it ain't OEM product. i.e., not Merc's "Parktronic" or "Quick Park" systems.

If you see bars, it is an OEM product.

Nowadays you don't see the OEM style le, See & See finally not so cheapo retrofit the parking sensors in SG.

My slk comes with parktronic.

Sometimes at traffic light stop, if bikes comes near the side will also go beep beep beep.
