SLK280

Dear All,

I am looking to buy an SLK. I have never own an SLK and is now considering buying a new SLK250 or older SLK280 (2-3 yr old)

I prefer the V6 engine. SLK350 is way too expensive to buy now. Maybe 2 yrs from now. Any pro/con comments.

Give me your thoughts.

^^ Like what bro Odessus has mentioned, best if you could arrange for a spin in a R171 vs R172.

It really depends on what you want out of the car. I personally prefer less electronic intrusion from things like ESP.

Have you tried both the R171 and R172? It's a vastly different feel from what I heard.

Nope. Never tried either. This is why I am asking. I drive a S350L. This SLK is meant for my wife. Dont know whether to throw money into a SLK250 NEW or SLk280 2-3 yrs old. Is it worth to drive this SLK280 for 2 - 3yrs .

Many considerations depending on what you prefer vis-a-vis cost.

Supercharged, turbocharged, NA? Affects the torque / pick-up characteristic feel and sound.

1.8L, 3L, 3.5L? Affects road tax, insurance, fuel consumption.

5-speed, 7G-Tronic? Affects fuel consumption, smoothness of gear change, backside feel.

First-hand, pre-loved used? Affects depreciation, cost, some people prefer first hand while some people don't mind pre-loved used.

Many other factors bro...

Get her to try both. If you are feeling rich, ask her to try SLK350 R171 and R172. Else get her to try SLK200/250 R171 and R172. Most ladies make decisions with their hearts. They will tell you immediately which they prefer. Mathematics and other considerations out the window. :D

Going by my preference, I would rather go for the newer model (R172) with much better technology and more spacious cabin. If you feel power is insufficient, get a chip-up and mod the exhaust. Then you will have both power/torque and sound/growl.

why not go for the new Z4?

Cos TS can start that topic over at BMWSG.
