Ticking sound driving me crazy

Hey guys,

My ride is a c180k W204 2010.

Thank God I found this forum and really learn a lot of information here.

I have a faint ticking sound and I'm pretty sure it's from the dashboard or similar.

Is there a sound guru I can drive to solve this problem. It's a faint ticking sound, intermittent and audible when over hump, multistory carpark or uneven road. Just service from cycle and during test drive, the sound disappear. Maybe it's raining that day. Any possible reason? Haiz, I'm a sound paranoid.

Any input is appreciated. I have almost read up on all threads related to ticking sound in this forum. :.(

Welcome!! To get it resolve or end up more tick tick sound. Get a mechanic to remove audio 20 to look for loose connection etc. But by doing so u might end up more tick tick :)

Noise can comes frim the suspension too u sure comes from tge dashboard?

had something similar. Sounds like metal clip loose behind the display

Noticed that it frequently occur when car is baked under the sun. Try slapping the dash area when interior is hot.

CNC fixed it after 2 trips.

same problem, tried slapping but it didn't work.. haha. I realized the noise came about during the late evenings (contraction maybe) after i got the car polished and the interior as well. it sounds like the material was rubbing against each other; maybe it too clean and glossy.. haha.

But it went off after a day or 2...

i tried slapping the left of the command display and also to the right of the steering.

They dunno whats wrong with it as theres nothing loose in there. They grease and insulate whats necessary.

just gotta be patient and leave the car there for 2 nites.Cos everytime they insulate, i told them to leave the car parked under e sun before driving around.

Do make an appt. its not gonna b a fast job especially when sound is on/off.

I told them to take all e time they want so long as they fix it. Have not heard the sound since.

Personally i prefer going to pandan for repair jobs. i would rate them best in terms of service and experience.

Dun mind going elsewhere if its just a regular servicing/oil change.

Mine was initially in the late afternoon/early evening.

But over time, frequency increases and seems to be whenever car interior in hot.

Goes away after blasting the a/c for 20mins.

Actually the one irritate me more is that the engine sound. the sound is not too loud and it is audible whenever I drive from 0-50km; with light tapping on the accelerator. It produces a "electric car" like sound from the engine and it follows the gear shift...

however, if I accelerate faster or on the stereo, then it is not audible.

do you guys get the "sound" as well?

This is so true... i suspect temperature play a huge part. But mine doesnt go away when it is cold.

Yup.. i have that sound too. Mine is the kompressor 1.6 ... but i can accept because it is well known that kompressor can be quite loud...hmmm.... sometime i enjoy that sound because like a lion roaring.... but the ticking sound is slowly torturing me ...

yes, mine too. at first i thought its the gearbox got problem *sweat*

later after discussion with bros here, its the supercharger that produced the whining electric sound.

U r luckier than me than.........no pun intended

If its consistantly there, will be easy to troubleshoot.

Dun worry, believe simple insulation should fix it

Update guys,

went to pandan loop as walk in and the technician went to test drive with me.

he manage to observe the faint ticking sound and request to leave the car for a while.

Going overseas during june and will leave the car with them for a week then.

Its inside the instrumental cluster and the technician says they will put felt and insulate 'inside'

will update again.

So pandan loop is the best place for servicing MB who still have warranty?
