Merc doors open even when locked?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

been driving my 2nd hand e200 for 2 weeks, just realised today,

that my 2 year old daughter opened my door even when it was locked!

luckily, car had just moved and was still in car park.

is it standard for all Mercs? my other cars onced the auto lock goes,

all doors cant be opened unless the driver unlocks his door.

It's normal and standard for Merc to have doors able to unlock and open from inside. It's a safety feature that will not get you trapped, you wouldn't want to get stuck in a car with a dead driver that cannot unlock for you.

Trip the child safety lock if you do not want your kid to open from inside. At least Merc comes with warning sound and visual to warn you of the door opening during movement.

thanks for the quick response. just kinda strange to have auto lock function, and doors still can open, so purpose is just to prevent

people from opening doors outside :)

my current E90 320 LCI is even strange. there was once the fuse for central lock malfunction. in the end, what happen is this.

1. i used the key to enter the car via driver side because only that door has a key hole entry.

2. the central lock/unlock button on the dashboard cannot unlock all doors due to blown up fuse.

3. therefore my wife cannot enter the car and has to enter from my side and practically climb over.

4. even from the inside, my wife cannot unlock the passenger side door.

this means that when the fuse blow, only my driver side can function. stupid isnt it.

i ask bmw technician and they say this is a safety feature and i said "what is my car caught fire? how is my wife going to escape since out of 4 doors, only the driver side can be accessible?" and he said erm......
