With today technologies the vehicle comes with advance check & balance system is almost like "idiots" proof. So i dont monitor closely on the maintanence of my vehicle. As long as you follows the maintenance schedule recommended by agent that should take care of it. Any abnormalities just send it to yr agent or regular workshop for medical check up. So relax & enjoy driving!!

My maintainance checks are mainly on the body work, tyres condition & ensure weekly car wash & top up my wiper fluid. I guess there are nothing much to do with my car, aparts from modding!!

Not just that lah!

Cos from Q5, I went to A4 and more engine sama2.

Most Audi owners will have a bottle of engine for topping up.

Beside from the car information system about oil engine level, most buy an engine oil dip stick to physically chk the engine level. :)

Audi servicing cost very expensive too!

This is my 2nd merc in 3 years+. These modern engine systems require very little maintenance on our part. As both SEs told me during collection - the car will pretty much tell you what is required. You don;t really need to open the bonnet. So what is required has mostly been to ensure I have petrol in the tank, tyres correctly inflated and run flat indicator reset each time, wiper fluid topped up with water when warned, bulbs changed when notified and of course the car is washed and groomed whenever required. Anything more than that is a job for the shop.

After that there's only the ride left to enjoy.

Most cars have this same problem with engine oil.

My previous Type R was 1litre a mth & my Evo & current BMW is 1litre every 2.5-3mths.

Not gasket issue, & despite on Motul Competition Oil.

Merc does not have this problem?

No such problem with my past & present MBs.

Be it Supercharge, Turbo or normal aspirated! :P

I agree with Kepiting 100%.

This Merc is reliable and does not give any problem other than the usual wear and tear.

This is one reason why I went for my 3rd Merc instead of Volvo when I was shopping to change my W203 last year.

jaguars also not bad actually ... i'm talking about the modern ones!! not the 80s ... those er ... good luck to you!

my previous X-type lasted me 140k km before needing to replace shocks and suspensions (nothing wrong, but heck just did it since it's so old) ... but then little things start breaking down and i had no time to keep going to workshop ... fuel pump, washer motor, door lock, battery etc.

Good car to own if you want something very basic and cheap to run (before 6 years old)

:P

  • 1 month later...

I seek to differ as sometimes the smart warning systems came on too late.. n those warranty statements like "parts not covered if cause by other wear n tear parts".

this is my recent encounter. Engine lights came on, brought to cnc was told the following parts failed.. o2 sensor, harness . This was due to an engine seal leaked.. the repair cost is ard 7k quoted.. mind u I have an existing warranty..

The point is that if drivers like us have info what to check, then the harness and the o2 sensor will not have failed as we drivers can look out for signs of leaks and replace the seal (much cheaper) before something catastrophic happens.. anyways.. I'm looking for information on what to check for initial tell tale signs. That will definitely reduce potential other faults..

hmmm... this may a bit "behind horse cannon" but hope it is not too late.

if you serviced your car regularly at C&C, you have a right to claim against them for the repairs.

think about this way - when you send in a car for servicing, what do you expect mechanics to do?

they ought go through the inspection check list, inspect the car thoroughly and give warning about issues right?

if the seal can fail with their inspection, then it is clearly their fault.

you as the non-savvy, non-mechanic customer relied on their knowledge to prevent such failures.

yet, they allowed such failure to occur.

if not, what is the point of their 1000 point inspection check-list? what is the point of relying on them for mechanical advice?

Their standard reply will be "at the point of inspection, nothing abnormal", " is a batch problem", "come back another day (to throw u off, so u wont come back). Btw not ALL parts are under warranty like those wear & tear parts such as seal, wiper etc.

Yes, this will be ideal.. but often then not, in our realistic world.. it won't happen.. :> just as blackmercs said.. it can be subjective.. Well my point really is I WANT TO BE A RESPONSIBLE OWNER TOO.. hahahah :> so if Mercedes can provide a few common failure areas which can potentially be avoided by owners. I'll be glad to open up the bonnet to have these points checks.. Just that there are some parts which we only find out after our experience (that is after forking out some $$ to learn).. :> I guess I'm in the camp where "Help Them to Help Us" .. :> Maybe I'll start a new thread on this. :>

hmm of course. they have a big legal department, we shrimps don't.

the only thing i have is time. i went to small claims tribunal (claims limited up to 10,000, some cases 20,000) with several big companies in singapore and all of them caved.

end up, they want to save the hassle (or know that they are really wrong), they will settle.

i get what i want, they get what they want (silencing me with non-disclosure)

in ryanlio's case, it is unreasonable for c&c to say that this is something a customer can notice. as long as the customer brought it in the moment he noticed something is wrong, he has done his due. c&c cannot simply sign off on every servicing and say everything is done without due responsibility.

some more, it is during warranty. what happened to them sia. last time still say "service/repair out of good will"

i hope no one takes what I am saying personally. i just dislike when companies don't take responsibilities for their action.

count their blessings that ryanlio is such a nice person and decided to let the matter rest.
