From InTech Review

Many Rebels Love the Toyota Hilux Pickup Truck As Much As AK-47s

For many decades, Toyota had visibly gained a well reputation for exceptional sturdiness and reliability on its Land Cruiser and Hilux pickup truck (including in the recent Libya conflict).

The Hilux had well proven on our common civilians’ road and heavy use plus abuse at war field as a type of improvised fighting vehicle to provide mobility for rebels and insurgent groups especially in Third World conflicts. Commonly, the open cabin of the Toyota Hilux will be mounted with machine gun, light anti-aircraft gun, recoilless rifle, or other support weapon.

According to an article report, a former British special forces soldier, which he refers the Hilux to as “the technical,” in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He said, “You can’t underestimate the value of having a vehicle that is fast, will never break down, and is strong enough to mount a heavy weapon in the back.”

Moreover, an experiment conducted by BBC TV show Top Gear in 2006 offers one explanation. The show’s producers bought an 18-year-old Hilux diesel with 190,000 miles on the odometer for $1,500. They then crashed it into a tree, submerged it in the ocean for five hours, dropped it from about 10 feet, tried to crush it under an RV, drove it through a portable building, hit it with a wrecking ball, and set it on fire. Finally they placed it on top of a 240-foot tower block that was then destroyed in a controlled demolition. When they dug it out of the rubble, all it took to get it running again was hammers, wrenches, and WD-40 without a need of any spare parts.

How on earth that Toyota can design such a vehicle that is so versatile and reliable for civilians and the rebels? I am speechless now. Toyota Hilux – “what a war machine”.

How easy is it for thieves to steal our entire car if it is fitted with immobiliser? Short of towing the entire car' date=' any other ways?[/quote']

They will just say, "Excuse me, Sir. We would like to have your car in exchange for your life, if you don't mind. And Sir, please let us have the remote key as we have learned from our experience", and show the owner a revolver or a parang. I'm sure the owner will definitely cooperate.

Must also be careful when driving up north south highway.

Smells awfully like an insider job. The robbers knew the money was hidden in the BMW's bonnet and the person was on his way to the bank. They then stole the money, and did not harm the person. Two hits and the BMW stalled? Their plan obviously ruined BMW's reputation at the same time. Hahaha...

I've never like to drive into Malaysia... kana once when me, my wife, my in laws and sister in law just alighted from our car, this motor bike drive past and the pillion snatched my wife's carry bag! I try to give chase by running after the bike but they sneaked thru the traffic and no where to be seen..

Make a police report at the JB police station and the first thing the officer told us is that they will not be able to trace the robbers and asked us if we want to drop the case. We told them we need the police report so as to file a back to back report back in singapore for the reapplication of all the ID, credit card, bla bla bla.... and finally they willing to take our statement. The best thing is that the officer that took our statement can't speak or write english! And she told us to type our own statement!

The whole process took us about 3hrs.... and since then, i'm very relutant to go to Malaysia... Nightmare!

Lol not so bad lah, just went in for day business trip to KL yesterday. But can't say the same for JB.....

I think the general consensus for driving to KL is still not considered dangerous as long as you stop only at the popular large R&R. JB on the other hand is a war zone.
