i couldn't find my home via postal code function either. pls update on what your SE says on the map update. if there is, i will go update as well.

U sure COMAND can search postal code with the S.E.A maps?

Thought they work for US or European maps only!

Mercs command couldn't read postal codes???

Got my new ride last week. Tried the navigator, can't even enter my SG postal code (greyed out for some digits). Think will stick to my Garmin for a while first... :)

Love the other features in command though... =)

IIRC Not for SE Asia map! Read 7 digit postal codes not our Sg 6 digits.

Singapore & SEA such a small market that could be the reason an original map update disk cost more than $3K whereas US & European Maps are a couple of '00s nia!

I've been using Garmin portable for the last 8 years and still have 2 of them but I still lup my COMAND Navigations & the voice comands!

IMHCCBO!

If CnC & other SEA MB dealers will to equip their MBs with COMAND like currently, then the maps will be very frenly! Our current mkt too small lah! If it's big enough NAVTEQ not MB or CnC hor will not be charging an arm and leg for the SEA maps. Ang moh countries a couple of '00s for Maps, we Asians have to pay >$3k for a DVD SEA map update. It's all abt economics lah!

Bro Vince, the comand is not for nav only, there are many other features in it. The voice control can be used on all these features. In any case, though the comand nav is not as good as a Garmin set, it is sufficient to nav around in S'pore. I have been using it without much problem so far. If don't have postal code, use full address entry lor...it's fun talking to my virtual ang moh girlfriend when I tell her my destination. You should try it lah.

Here's my update:

Met my SE this morning. Told him my problem. He confirmed the map in my COMMAND is the latest. Regarding the postcode problem, he sought help from a more senior SE, judging by his dressing (he wore suit). Forgot his name.

This senior SE spent some time trying to find my address, but to no avail. He was very helpful and persistent. But in the end he had to admit there are limitations in COMMAND's map. I told him how I felt about COMMAND, informed him that the navigator in my pervious ride was so much better. He promised to convey my feedback to management. My SE will keep me posted if there's anything C&C can do to resolve the problem.

Anyway, I doubt C&C will do anything regarding COMMAND. Unless they are prepared to replace the navigation system, I have to live with it. Like what one bro said, Singapore is too small a market for Mercedes to cater to. Sigh... Look like I have to keep my Garmin. Double sigh....

Good idea. That's one way of motivating C&C to do something about COMMAND.

If you go in now, someone is asking about what the COMMAND entails...under the "Celebrate our 125th Anniversary with the limited edition E-Class 125! Sport Edition"

You can continue from there and talk about the problem you are facing...

Not many of their SE or worse their immediate boz do not knows much about Comand!

Their technical staff would be more appropriate!

If you like me to help U to use your Comand NTG 4.5 which is even more advance than my Comand NTG 2.5, come and see me!

MB Sg actually replied my post, when I complained on their Facebook that COMMAND's nav sys CMI.

This is what they said: Hi there, thanks for the queries. We'll check the details and get back to you soon.

I'm impressed. MB Sg actually has someone reading the posts on their Facebook. Cool!

Hi Bro,

It's difficult to tell what version MB has installed in your Comand when shipped out the Car. As we have found that some CLS W218 shipped to Hong Kong with S.E.A Map V.3 but now the latest one is S.E.A. Map V.5 for W212/W218 series NTG4.

Thus, it's been quite sure that you have to buy a PIN from Mercedes to get your R172 (NTG4.5), W204 FL (NTG4.5), W221 FL (NTG3.5) update even you have got the latest DVD map on hands. After you insert the map DVD, Comand will ask you to input a 6 digits PIN to proceed ahead the map update. Therefore, the cost of updating the map will be much expenisve than before as C&C also needs to pay the PIN cost to Mercedes as whenever they get the PIN from the system, the system will bill them automatically.

Similar practice has been carrying out by BMW CIC map update as well.

Cheers, Ricky
