Motor traders were speculating 40 percent reduction. End up only 3 percent....

The Certificates of Entitlement (COEs) quota for the period February 2011 to July 2011 will be 22,368. Details of the quota for each vehicle category are at Annex A. Bidding under this quota will start with the February 2011 First Open Bidding Exercise.

The COE quota consists of the following components:

§ Provision for 1.5% vehicle growth based on the vehicle population as at 31 December 2010;

§ Replacement COEs for vehicles de-registered between July and December 2010; and

§ Adjustment for over -projections of vehicle de-registrations in 2008/2009.

LTA will issue fewer COEs, 3% less for 6 months

TRANSPORT Minister Raymond Lim revealed in Parliament today that the Government will be issuing fewer Certificates of Entitlement (COEs).

For the next six months, between February and July, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will make 22,368 COEs available.

That's 3 per cent less than the previous six-month period or 3,728 COEs per month.

The new quota will also take into account LTA's over-projection of the number of vehicles to be de-registered, or taken off the road.

Mr Lim said the remaining 9,577 COEs to be corrected will now be done over a period of three years instead of one after consultation with relavant stakeholders.

The COE quota will cater for 1.5 per cent growth of the vehicle population at the end of 2010, which was 921,958.

It also takes into consideration replacement COEs for vehicles de-registered between July and December 2010 as well as adjustment for over-estimations of vehicle de-registrations in 2008 and 2009.

I read that cat A and B will reduced by about 15% and 8% respectively, with only cat E increasing. Looks like COE will continue to stay at current level.

Cat A will be under pressure with V60 and the new 3 series reportedly having a 1.6 turbo variant.

It's going to be interesting.
