Pre FL has problems with SBC (sensotronic brake control). SBC has been eliminated on FL models.

On the lighter side of things, E240 V6 = not enough poke. Hehehehe :becky:

For the SBC brake issues, my previous 04 Pre FL W211 was recalled by C&C for SBC brakes issues, but i am not sure if they replaced the whole brake system or not? anyway those who was recall for this issue should have something like a receipt regarding the recall after the repair was done, so you might want to ask the seller or dealer if they have it?

as for the GPS(Comand APS), it is always a Option, not a standard item, even for FL model, but since you are sourcing for a 2nd hand one, might as well source one that have it on baord.

I have a 06 July Pre FL E200.... the brakes has no problems for me since day one till now (SBC) is working well... and I have seen some E240 that has COmand as well .... and mine comes as a standard as C&C is clearing the car back then for the NEW FL model in aug 2006....sad thing is that there is no new maps update.mine is still 2005 map

hi Leon

no cure for the sensotronic brake control issue right ??

will it cause failure or unable to brake ?

or just irritating sounds only ??

When SBC pump fails, the hydraulic brake pump takes over. SBC is essentially brake by wire technology which helps to control the entire braking system more efficiently and smoothly by way of complex calculations done from taking input readings on the brake pedal.

In the event of an emergency, the driver is not distracted by things such as pedal vibration etc. It measures braking input speed, force etc via a sensor which feeds this information to the SBC ECU and in turn the ECU will determine how much braking force to apply to each wheel.

Braking distance and reaction using the backup hydraulic system are increased so there is some difference to be felt.

Bosch Group is responsible for the SBC and this system has been known to cause problems with the car's ECU.

The worst scenario you would encounter would be total failure of the braking system meaning your car would have to roll to a complete stop w/o brakes or in some cases only the front brakes were working.

It is more irritating I reckon to have the "STOP! Brake Malfunction" error coming on intermittently. I have seen a few at my mech that come in to flush their error codes every now and then even though the SBC works fine.

One more thing. Word is the newer SBC versions are more reliable so any upgrade would "help".

Distronic Plus (currently optional on the S klasse) is definitely a more sophisticated close cousin upgrade of the SBC.

Congrats on your new ride!

Good choice! Hope U bought a 2005 or 2006!

Sat in my boz 2003 E240 - despite being 7 yr old - still damn quiet.

The 2.6L engine is a gem and no whinning sound unlike the 1.8L SC Kompressor.

The car came with the "lousy" Audio 20.

Price of that car when he bought it was >$220K. :becky:

Good NSHW cruiser!

My boz E240 also had the SBC problem and has being rectified by C&C

many yrs back.

Will be good for you to check the record of your new ride with C&C with regard to the SBC.

BTW - Have'nt seen anyone got a fruit basket in the A&E....muahahaha!

More likely in the High Dependency Ward or ICU aka Intensive Care Unit not ECU hor - wait we flashed your ICU to stage I....muhahahaha!

lol... it is okay i think. definitely a smoother ride than a e200k. the depreciation is not that bad, usually slightly lower than e200k (but slightly highly for road tax).

enjoy your ride!
