Spraying Instrument Cluster

I'm thinking of refreshing the instrument cluster on the 124.

Has anyone taken out the instruments and resprayed the face? I've done it on some of my previous cars but no experience with the Merc

EL, there are different versions, from $150 to $230.. you can go to Stamford tyres, they have EL for W124 and the rest

No Leh...It's the surrounding face which is faded. So even change the dials, the surroundings also need to change.

besides, i'd rather keep 1 car stock.....no want to change anything just yet

The problem is the front plastic panel cannot be remove. How do you spray.

ahhh...the plot thickens. Well, I figure since they make aftermarket pieces like that, that there must be a way to remove the piece. the question then is, how to remove the plastic piece....

is easy to take out....

but due to the fact that the w124 is a old car...

plastics tend to be brittle...

so do be careful when taking out....

havent done it yet. No time or energy. Been spending most of it on the miata still. tt's the advantage of being the mistress and not the work horse.

w124 instrument cluster is quite easy to take out.

But dismantle the internal is quite tricky, careful not to break any parts.

esp I dont even know wat speed i am at !!

i mean it is not as if i am fast ... but at least i need to know

Bro..maybe can try to adjust the brightness of the bulb? Just press the "tripmeter" stick, and turn left or right.. that should adjust the brightness.

I've done too many modifications to the dials of my previous cars and have learnt my lesson. The only thing I will do is just clean up the original man, as I'm trying to keep the car looking and feeling stock.

Mods will go to my more serious ride, the 124 is my work horse to ferry the family around on weekends......

i'd do up the merc as and when i have capacity, but really, it take a S**T load of $$$ and effort before it can even come close to the miata. After all, that was 7 years of blood,sweat and $$$...
