Keeping beyond 5 years - Pre FL W 204

Hi Gurus here,

I am in a fix and would like to hear the opinions of the Gurus here.

Currently driving a W204 Y2010 and owned the car brand new. The car has been serving me well and I am still very happy with the car. However, the car is 5.5 years now and I am thinking whether I should change to a car or keep the car beyond 5 years. There are some concerns with major parts breaking out and the cost of repair. I am prepared to pay for all the routine maintenance - Service A and B etc.

Of course driving a new car is nice but COE is not at the lowest at the moment.

Any opinions ... welcome.

I believe many of the W204 owners is in the same dilemma.

5.5 years should be no more car loan?

if the AD or PI gives good trade in value of your car then can consider to upgrade new

but again meaning got new liability all over again.

with the new loan regulations,

I doubt there will be any chances of COE going downhill for next 6 to 12 months unless market goes down badly.

(which means also higher risk to have new liability all over again)

life of car owners in SG...

Mine is a PFL also. So far it has not given any hair-pulling issue.

Frankly speaking (and no offence to the folks driving newer models like W205), it has not really given any strong push factor for me to change.

- FC.. looks like there isn't much improvement, from what i've read

- Performance.. perhaps a couple seconds improved, but i can live with that

- Exterior and interior looks.. and perhaps a little more spacious.. it's imo a good to have.. though, it doesn't really justify blowing additional tens of k to vs renewing the COE for another 10 years.

- Mine is a Cat A 1.6... so if future Cat A is lower than B, I will have some further savings there if I keep the car.

IMO the major parts that 'might' happen are:

- Green key (can it happen? Like a timebomb..)

- Supercharger?

- Gearbox? But so far i've not read anything mentioned about GB.

Anyway, mine's expiring in 2021, see how it goes..still have some time.
