C180K will not move

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my C180k - when I start the car, I can shift the gear into D but the car will not move at all. It is completely unresponsive to the accelerator. And after a minute the engine will start rattling and all the dashboard lights come on.

Called up C&C and the mechanic is coming down but would also really welcome some urgent advice please!!!

Probably your cam gears kaput!

If it's, repairs outside will cost about $3000 for the full job!

Hope not!

Cheers

Not sure if is fuel pump not sending fuel to the engine.

Happen to my previous w203 ride before.

His car can start who! So probably the cam timing is out or gear box issue.

On-line doctor say cam timing cos if cam timing out, press accelerator engine un-responsive. :)

Guess MB safety feature if not when cam timing out, valves timing out, valves bent, break, cam shaft bent, piston top also get hit, whole engine kaput.

Cheers

Thanks everyone!

The really strange thing is, when I called the MB mech, the car worked perfectly! :-\

He said thought that the cylinders were not very stable or "hunting", and the clanging sound could be due to a loose cam chain, maybe the cam teeth are eroded or something like that. So what u guys mentioned bout the cam gears or cam timing sounds about right...

To fix will have to do top overhaul, open up the engine and file the gears or smthg. Apparently its about $6k at C&C. So yeah, $3k outside sounds about right too! I normally go to Gim Teck Motor, those guys are good. But I'm a bit worried that when it comes to mechanical stuff, got to get the timing or distance or whatever just right, probably safest to go with C&C. But $$$.

He said is maybe that was a one-off glitch, so hopefully it doesn't occur again. Crossing fingers...

But u guys familiar with this? Know anyone who can fix it if necessary?

It's not filing the cam gear but to change the cam gear, cam screw, valve cover gasket, plug seal, timing cover gum, timing tensioner, coolant, etc

At times come & go and come to a later stage engine check light comes on, then go off, then stay there.
