Just wanna share an experience about my car remote key ...

Recently i have been having trouble opening the door of my w204 with the remote key. Even when i am very near, sometimes it takes a few clicks before i can unlock the car. Locking the door is not a problem. I changed the battery but it still happens intermittently.

Of recent, i have also noticed that when washing my car(I usually dont drive it on Sat and wash car on Sunday morning), i could not slide my seat front or back with the control (mine is electric seat). I was quite puzzled.

I suspected that the battery was weak and had it checked, all was ok (Battery less than 1 year old).

Being an engineer myself, i was quite adamant to find out why. After some investigation/fault finding, i manage to figure out what was wrong.

I had the in car camera set to record after parking the car. The camera drained the battery so much so until the electric seat and door could not function properly.

After re-setting the camera function, I could now close and open my car from up to 15 metres away. So if the remote key does not open the door, it may just be that the car battery is weak, not the car remote battery weak.

Sorry for the long story, just thought i'd share it.

Usually I disconnect the wiring to the in car camera when I park at my HDB car park. Own housing estate area and neighbors cars also have 24/7 in car recording and police very own high tech CCTV. Should be safe

If I park elsewhere I will Keep the parking mode recording on in case any kuku driver does something funny

Itronics ...

I'm on Itronics too (front and rear ITB-100) and I find that it drains my car battery pretty quickly. I have power magic and it cuts off the power every time I unlock my car using the remote control, even if the car is at rest for like 10-15 mins. I don't have such issue with the blackvue on my other car but that's a Honda so not really a like for like comparison. Maybe is just a coincidence but I'm reading Is that the Itronics cam draining too much power?

Morale of this story is not everything is so apparent.

Remote can't open door does not mean remote battery is weak.

i think all electronic equipment drains the car battery one way or another, i doubt the camera brand makes a great difference. Advice is to turn off all unnecessary gadgets when the car is parked for longer period of time.

my 2 cents.

peace
