Buying a new E class. Questions on PI workshop & warranty

Hi all,

Tried searching but can't get a comprehensive ans on this. Only managed to get bits and pieces of info here and there.

I'm looking at getting a new E Class, not sure E200 or E250. Definitely PI as i find the sales service at CnC not that great and it's too overpriced compared to buying from PI. I have bought from PI before but only jap cars, never continental. I understand the general feedback from most people is that conti cars run on more electronics so there's a higher tendency for conti cars to have abit of electronic issues/replacements that need to be done from time to time even though Merc is supposed to be the best in terms of reliability for conti cars.

So i have a few questions as follows:

1. Which workshop has one of the best equipment, experience in servicing Merc cars? Can they handle it if there are real serious issues or under what situations can i only turn to CnC for their help? (i hear names like MBM, Auto Spritz, Star Black etc)

2. If i turn to CnC, is the admin fee still $500 or has this changed? What other docs would i need?

3. Is the warranty and the workshop basically the same? Which warranty coverage is generally the most reasonable?

4. I'm not looking to pay the cheapest but just want to pay reasonable pricing to service the Merc. Which workshop would be best?

Lastly, is the E250 worth getting over the E200? Seems like from Merc SG website, the specs look rather similar.

Thx all

Welcome!!

1. Which workshop has one of the best equipment, experience in servicing Merc cars? Can they handle it if there are real serious issues or under what situations can i only turn to CnC for their help? (i hear names like MBM, Auto Spritz, Star Black etc) - star black is a goner, most site sponsor here can do the job. Optima werkz equipment looks impressive. Top93 is my regular workshop for servicing.

2. If i turn to CnC, is the admin fee still $500 or has this changed? What other docs would i need? $500?? Now is at least $10,000.

3. Is the warranty and the workshop basically the same? Which warranty coverage is generally the most reasonable? Cant comment, call them to compare pricing.

4. I'm not looking to pay the cheapest but just want to pay reasonable pricing to service the Merc. Which workshop would be best? Call them to compare the cost.

Lastly, is the E250 worth getting over the E200? Seems like from Merc SG website, the specs look rather similar.- hp and features is difference. I will go for E250.

Welcome .... Firstly before you even think about servicing and warranty issues as what you had stated above, have you even considered the most important Question?

1) Which PI are you going to buy from?

2) Is the reputation of the PI creditable?

3) Understand who is covering the warranty offered by the PI?

Lastly.. Is this workshop creditable too?

If you have concluded that the first 3 question is of no issues... then you worry about the last one...

As for workshops.. I believe MBM and some of the site sponsors are well equipped to deal with your warranty issues... I personally believe the PI is of more importance than the workshop... If your PI go bust... the so called "affiliated " workshop will not give a damn if your car breaks down... cos they cannot do the claim for you... I strongly suggest you do your homework before putting pen to paper.... Don't fall for PIs like Volk auto....

thx for the tips. I'm thinking of only sticking with the big PIs for this. But some of the pricing from the smaller PIs are rather attractive. Like First Automobile is selling the E200 lesser than 200k. I wonder what are the terms and conditions for this? And maybe the OMV is significantly lower.

so much factors to consider!

Based on latest promo by C&C of 28k overtrade, the E250 would work out to be $275-28k = $247k

Most PI you can get the E250 between $210-215k. So savings is still about 30-35k. Which is still significant.

Just sharing my experience on what happen for your consideration: (cut a long story short...)

02 Jan 2014 - Car cant start (battery good) due to steering lock issue (W204 and car is 5 years old). Call several workshops including those big name mentioned here. They advise me to go back to CnC as they cant do it due electronic issue as programming is required or it would be very expensive for them to handle it as they need to go back to CnC too. Just collected car late yesterday 05 Jan 2015 and cost me S$1,426.   Moral of my story...."luckily" car is from CnC else i have to pay adoption fee ($10,000???) before CnC will repair it and will take 2 weeks as PI car is last priority. Just sharing!!!

02/01/2014 is C class? Then 05/01/2015 is simi class?? Or the green key issue require CnC to repair for a year?? Typo error for the year?? Lolz

Green key issue is common found in C class not E class, i might be wronged There are outside workshop can do the job but cost slightly higher. So we advise anyone encounter this issue go back CnC for the repair.

Yea most fear is engine seize and programming issue but those days are gone. We got lemon law to protect us since is a brandnew car. Used car to apply lemon law is tough but for my used car i adopt the "lets pay half the price" law and its works!!

I think you got it wrong. The focus of this thread became on C&C adoption which really isn't the case.

I was asking about C&C adoption as a worst case scenario if a PI workshop can't handle certain serious problems and cant do anything about it and the driver has no choice but to turn to C&C to fork out from his own pocket.

Buying from CnC bcos you paid a premium so that they are constantly standing by taking care of your car 24/7. Considering their scale and support, especially on recalls if any, a premium price is reasonable.

Buying identical car spec from PI is way cheaper, bcos they can't promise to be there 24/7 for the next 10 years of your car's life. A cheaper charge is also reasonable in the sense.

Really depends if you are one who keeps money in the bank or putting your money into speculating shares type.

If you are prepared to go C & C and seriously sit down and negotiate wit SE after satisfactory test drive you can get the E250 Elegance for around 230K after all the misc rebates, overtrade etc. E250 AVG around 9k more.  E200 AVG also around 230K and E200 around 10k less.  Not forgetting u will also get 5k service credits aand misc other goodies..
