2010 E200 - 9 months and 7800 km later…

Happy New Year everyone! It has been 9 months since I got my first Merc. I thought perhaps I can jot down some thoughts on my ownership of the car and share my experience.

  1. Bought the car in April, that time it was 3.5 yrs old and had about 41K km on it. Didn't have much experience buying a used car, so just blind trust on the reputation of the car and the dealer.
  2. On 1st and 2nd month, did the following at C&C for peace of mind. Cost about $1600.
    • Service A
    • Change battery
    • Change transmission oil
  3. On 3rd month, went to Revol for grooming. The car came back looking (almost) like new.
  4. On 4th month, went to C&C's Service Clinic just for the fun of it. Quite useful. Found a couple of problems to be dealt with in #6.
  5. Most immediate concern is the braking system, with brake pads wearing thin, so went to outside workshop to change the following for about $800.
    • Front brake pads
    • Front brake discs
    • Brake fluid
  6. Then last month, finally can't take the undercarriage noise when going over humps, so went to change the following at workshop, about $2300. Ouch! But now the ride is without sound and I'd say feels more refined and "solid".
    • Both front shocks
    • Front suspension lower arms and linkages
  7. Lastly, because of balding back tyres and all of them coming to 5 yr old, I decided to change the tyres. Found Goodyear Eagle F1A2 to be the best value for money, so got 4 of them for about $1K. My rims are so well protected by the thick tyre sidewalls now. Mounted the curb twice without curb rash.

All in all, I spent about $6+K on maintenance of the car, more than I had spent on servicing my previous ride Honda Jazz in 8.5 years! But admittedly most are preventive as well as wear-n-tear, which I expect to be much less going forth as I don't drive my car aggressively and my mileage per day is quite low (office near home).

But truth to be told, I love the car. When cruising around, I love the spacious cabin and the wonderful well built interior. The drive is so comfortable, and it gives a calm and soothing feel whenever I drive it.  It never fails to impress people I know though everything is stock… most of the time colleagues and friends comment that it looks new and well maintained.

In 2015, I'll probably change a few more things… but will leave that to next year's summary post…  :D

Really cool! With current COE, I can only dream of getting brand new Merc… ok, maybe only up to the B-Class.

Yes, if taken care of, the W212 Merc looks classy and like it'll last forever (or till end of COE :P).

Forgot to mention that my wife is the only one who complain about the car. She says I spent too much time pampering it!
