I think the anti slip mat had a chemical reaction to the dashboard covering.

I had a "new" mat which I bought some time ago, it looked fine.

I placed it on a painted metal shelf in my house, but after a month it kinda of melted and bonded on the shelf.

This was indoor and without any sun. I have stopped using those mats ever since.

I checked at a worshop near my place and he quoted $2,700 excluding labour to change the dashboard.

I'll go to C&C for such jobs… or at least check with them the cost. Outside workshop may not install properly… then later you'll have rattling sound, which could be more irritating.

Not sure what you mean by "wrapped", but to save cost (especially if old car), then you may put a dash mat over it. Like those hairy hairy type people like to put on the dash of Japanese cars :P.

Or this type (for example): http://www.accessoriesonline.com.au/shop/product.php?productid=17302

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.
