Installing camera in car?

Recommended Posts

Hello Merc-ian,

I did a search if this has been previously discussed but came up nil. If there was, please point me to it.

Basically I am hoping to find out :

1. Camera model suitable when car has been parked. Don't really see the need when car is in motion.

2. Cost and ease of installation.

3. Duration it can records and the recorded stuff can be stored in the device. Cos I park in office for 10-13 hrs generally.

Of course as usual will appreciate it very much any advice received from you guys n gals on this camera thingy....

Best

Think most bros here using blackvue or itronics.

I'm using itronics myself and so far ok.

If the cam can support 32gb or more storage then should not be a problem to record more than 1 to 2 days 24/7.

Thanks for the advice All.

Sorry, one other question that I should have asked - Darksaint & Alphard >> where can I get these recommended brands at a competitive price?

Merczai - yes, in-car camera.

Daffy - my "logical" reasoning >> if I am at the wheel, I will know what has happened. Its when the car has been left unattended that things seem to happen. My friend on the first day he left his brand new merc in a car park, season parking, received a "love note" on his wind screen to park elsewhere as that spot and neighbouring spots "not meant for mercedes pricks" (verbatim) AND these are not reserved lots!!

Sorry, sorry...one more question. Can these in car cameras be installed without dismantling any parts of the car?

Yes, you can install camera and plug into the 12V or cigarette lighter socket… that can be done without dismantling anything. BUT it will not serve your purpose of monitoring when car is parked, because the 12V socket will power off if you turn off the engine. Anyway, this method is not "clean",  wires hanging all over your ride.

If you want to monitor around the clock, then the tech has to tap into some wires under the glove box.

I was in same situation as you, but in the end just close one eye and hope the ride can be put back properly. :)

I think installing in-car camera is essential especially you are always on the road and this device can help you if you are not at fault during accident.

If you are not particular which parking lot you park, then don't get those with parking mode.

I have sent my recorded clips to TP because I spotted a FT drive irresponsibly by beating traffic light and making illegal turn

If you are getting battery to power your camera, make sure you know if the battery is powerful enough or does it requires higher specs.

So installing a cam is purely catching those pricks... :P

If someone reverse and bang onto your car, or maybe a head on collision, will insurer just listen and believe your words becos you were in the car? Whatever it is, good to have a cam...

Bros, thanks for the advice and info. Very useful.

I saw events being organised for driving trips across the Causeway. Might it be a good opportunity to get the camera installed there? Service may be a problem if any issues post-installation. I have friends that actually bought stuff for their cars and and getting mods done there. Would be cheaper I reckon with the exchange rate now at 2.6. Any experience that can share, apart from the good food lah .... :stuff:

What's your budget? I believe it is not the labour that is expensive, but the camera itself. For example, camera may be $300 and labour to install is $30 here in SG. If you buy camera in MY, then you'll have to worry about warranty.

i guess one front, one back and one surround ....

mine is front and back ... (installed 2 camera cos got the new model(100HD sp) and old model not worth much so instead of selling or letting it lie around, i fitted on the back) ... so that is how i ended with 2 cameras fitted  ..lol

level can PM me the info?

buddy PM sent ....

the seller is a good guy, good camera .. i vouch for him ... i bought from him 5 sets so far for frens & myself ... no problem what soever ..

PS : What i like about this camera is that it alerts you(you needs this in redundant devices) if there is an issue (example some issue with the memory card ...) so you can take corrective actions ... imagine **those(not all) whom does not alert you, the camera may not even be recording & you would not even know about it ....
