Air suspension for W124

Hi! I'm looking at ways to soften the ride of my W124, if possible, to ''Citroen'' levels of comfort. I.e. extreem softness. Is there any after-market air or hydraulic suspension kit available locally for the W124? Or, what other options may there be for achieving this? Thanks in advance for your kind help, Sirs!!

Hi foo_c_m, what brand of shock absorbers are you currently using ? Standard issue for the W124s are Bilstein Comfort and they are the best compromise in terms of comfort and handling. You may find bottoming out and excessive swaying issues similar to the early W210s if you install anything softer.

i don't know of any aftermarket kits available locally. http://www.barsnracks.com.au/airbag/index.html can customize a kit to suit if you're interested. Most aftermarket airbag kits are designed for enthusiasts interested in lowering their ride height on the fly and come with compressed air tanks installed in the boot area controlled by switchboxes.

Dear g8crasher , thanks for replying! Mine is 100% stock. Unaltered since showroom. But I ain't DIY enthusiast, need to have a workshop to install it for me. Any local workshop / mechanic / studio can do this?

Further on the same topic, the reason why I ask is becoz what I saw on Youtube. check Youtube for ''Mercedes W124 air suspenison''. Is such a product available in S'pore?

From extensive enquiries within this Forum and also with other Forums, it seems that there is no local dealer / mechanic for after-market air suspension for the Merc.

So, if I want to soften my ride using ''conventional'' suspension systems, what are my options? Which brand or make of shocks/dampers are the softest available which can fit the W124?

Any idea? B-)

As far as I know, the softest achievable ride quality for the W124 is with stock springs and Bilstein Comfort shocks. I cannot think of any other factory matched solution that will give you the best balance in terms of ride quality and control.

It would probably help if you're running stock 15" or 16" wheels as well. Low profile tyres on 17" rims are a no-no for comfort.
