Need advice: FL W212 E200 engine sounds like diesel taxi

Hello to everybody!

Just to share that I bought the FL W212 E200 Avantgarde and collected the car in July this year. Needless to say, the car was a joy to drive.

However, some of my friends and neighbours (past E class owners) commented that from the outside, the engine sounds like a taxi's diesel engine. :) Any forum members with similar experiences?

To be fair, when you are inside the cabin, the sound insulation is fantastic and very quiet. Sometimes, I don't even know whether I've switched on the engine.

Appreciate your advice / thoughts, please. Thanks.

??? When idling or driving off? If it sounds like a cab while idling.. something is very wrong...... send back to CNC....

Hey, thanks much for the responses. Went to double-check the badge in case they gave me the E300 BlueTec ... no lor. ;)

Anyway, as per retiefgoosen's comment, seems like "it's liddat one". This model's engine does sound tiak tiak tiak - I popped over to CNC to listen to other cars of same model, all sama sama.

Again, thanks to everybody for the sharing - this forum is a wealth of info.

Cheers.

Even aft engine oil change servicing?

Hi bros,

Hah, the sound tiak tiak tiak does not require superman ear - I think comparable to the sound coming from my wrx. But well, it's supposedly normal, as attested by the other bro, as well as another similar model I checked out at CNC.

As it is only 3000+ km, so some way to go before engine oil change servicing. Hopefully, it will sound smoother and quieter after further running in and servicing. My SA told me to go for a day run to Ipoh and back. :)

Everybody enjoy the weekend ahead.

Cheers.

Having the same prob too... Don't think is because of the engine not 'run in', they should have did the dyno in german b4 production. Not so sure on the petrol grade thingy. But I happened to read an article on the direct fuel injection engine which this new model is using.  The mechanism in this type of powerful DI engine might have produced the ticking sound.

Hi,

Does anyone know if changing the exhaust will help with the clattering sound? Really cant stand it as seriously sounding like taxi.....

I think changing the exhaust will not solve anything..... try engine instead.....
