Usually when an engine head is damaged, it can mean either of these (engine block, cylinder head) have suffered stress cracks due to overheating or a leaking head gasket. I would advise you not to drive your vehicle because stressing it any further may cause further damage to your existing engine block. In extreme cases, the entire engine has to be changed as a result of inadequate repair.

Given the number of MB part dealers in Singapore and also the W124 being a commonly driven vehicle, it should be fairly easy to find parts for it. You can try Propel Auto Parts at Ph: 6368 1686 for used spare parts or enquire about new spare part prices at places like Gallop Autoparts

if need to change engine, might as well change it to 230.!!

anway W124 engines there are plenty.. @ scrapyards. workshop guys can help you find good ones.

patch won't last long, esp if heavy footed and not well maintained! must freq keep it up to std., check water, oil level etc....

Hmm talking to james now, it seems the cylinder heads were damaged and "patched" back at a cost of $1200. Top overhaul should cost $1700 incl cylinder head change right Kel ?

If it's that loud it certainly isn't your own imagination. :)

Like Kel says, you have to be very religious in terms of regular oil change etc. Maybe you should top up another $500 to the $1200 just to get it properly overhauled. I understand you've already spent some $$ doing up other areas of that require attention but this is all part of the ownership experience. Since it has been about a year plus from when you picked up the car, it is normal to spend a couple of thousand in terms of getting it up to scratch.
