Hi all, i have a couple of queries on the C180 W205 model.

1) Does the air circulator automatically turn off after certain time? Also whenever I step into the car it seems like I have to "turn on" the in car air circulator button even though I didnt turn it off the night before.

2) Engine bay/Under bonnet sounding like a diesel engine, is this supposed to be normal?

Thanks for helping guys,

Cheers

Raphael

I noticed that my W205 C200 engine sounds like a diesel and asked the Service Executive.

The guy brushed me off dismissingly saying "You stoopid, you should use no less than RON 98.

Otherwise RON 95 will cause the noise."

I have just gone through a half tank of RON98

I will continue to monitor if he is correct but I dare say, so far, no difference yet!

But I hope he is right because I heard my friend's Volvo S60 Diesel and I thought the Volvo sounded much better!

My C200 has a metallic clatter noise but the Volvo seems to have a 'plasticky' diesel hum which seems pleasant to my ears.  Hahaha.

That is the best I can describe them.

In my W203, the 'air recirculation' switch will reset after 30 minutes.

In my W205, I think it resets in less than 20 minutes. The fortunate thing is that, in the W205, there seems to be very little annoyance.  With the W203, you can immediately smell the car fumes from outside once the switch resets to external recirculation.

Hello. Can I check if the engine noise you're hearing is similar to the one I have attached in my file?

My C180 W205 makes a terrible rattling noise around 1,200 - 1,500 rpm.

The engineer who tested the vehicle with me told me it's not normal for a new car. However, the service rep told me it's normal in ALL W205s and even discredited the engineer by saying that the engineer doesn't really know as much as the other specialists (engineer told me he's has been with C&C for 30+ years already).

I am wondering how can a brand new Merc sound so terrible.

I think it sounds normal. This is the sound when engine is cold and it gets softer and smoother after warm-up. The engine is really sounds rough if I compared to a Lexus 6 cylinders engine. On a scale of 0 to 10. W205 is a 2, my Nissan Sunny is a 5 and the Lexus is a 9. And the HiAce van is a 1. Hahaha.

@drumhq Yeah that doesn't sound too good. Have you done a full service for the car yet?

Yes, my car is only brand new and only 3 months old. This is the response from the 2nd Service Advisor I have asked on the noise:

"We have taken the necessary steps and checked your vehicle condition (engine bay and undercarriage) for any irregularities, but we have found none. For this "rattling" noise is normal as it is also present in other C-class with the similar engine model which is "264". Have tested several other same model, even one of the car has been in our workshop for about 1 month, nothing seems to be abnormal. "

He's telling me it's normal. Does anyone else experience this?

My take is as long as no problem with the car don't bother with it, crank the stereo louder. C class is not really a quite car if compared with Lexus. I have to acknowledege too that dealing with dealer service on MB could be headache, but it still better not treated customer like idiot compared to other brand. I tested Lexus ES 300H luxury and was offered special indent NX300H luxury, but I still choose E200.

@drumhq Sometimes..... For a piece of mind, just visit outside workshop spend a bit of $, they'll at least bother to troubleshoot for you. C&C is err...

@knighthunter Your experience with Lexus/Borneo has been better than C&C i reckon?

Never owned Lexus yet, but their service is good and polite. I don’t know about their service. I was referring to agent for Volvo service when SA push me to change perfectly ok battery also about service package issue and got funny experience with Landy sales from same group when I decided to skip their offer for P250 evoque 😂
