Recommended Posts

Hi Mates,

As u all know there is this launch promotion going on for the new merc B200 and C180 1.6L (MY2012)..

I m kinda confused on which to get and new few tips n advice.

Could you kindly share with me?

Price wise B200 167k vs C180 1.6L 189k....

The c180 is the new model from the old 1.8L engine to the 1.6L engine...

i would get the saloon, plus points for the 1.6L c180

1.6L for sensible road tax - save money for other things in life

rwd for c180, while fwd for b200 - if u have driven a fwd perhaps u like to try rwd for a diff experience

however i think the b-class has better ingress/egress stance for driver and passengers due to hatchback format.

am currently driving a courtersy car, B160 from Cnc. Other than its good cabin and leg room space, the interior finishes and power are lacking.

First & foremost, no 'pouring of cold water' is intended here but just my opinion base on my own personal situation.

My current B200 Turbo 2007 is no longer in warranty and I find it expensive to up keep the car in terms of service & fuel cost. I am lucky to be eligible to purchase under the Corporate Program from Mercedes Australia. Being a Corporate Program customer, I'll get 3 years of free servicing hence my decision of upgrading my current B200 to the latest B200 CDI. But when I went down to the Mercedes Dealership to test drive and check out the new B200, I was so disappointed at it's interior equipment level ..... seats side bolsters are practically plastic hard! Upholstery also looked cheap. Even those with Leather doesn't feel as comfortable as my current model. I even lost interest in test driving the new B200 CDI. Then the new C250 CDI Estate caught my eye. I'm a bit of a DIY person hence an Estate would make sense for me when I need to ferry DIY materials or equipments. I had previously test driven a C250 CDI Sedan as a loaner during the servicing of my current B200 & I just love the power the torque, the comfort level and the quiet cabin ...... I was really impressed! Due to all these, I'd ordered a new C250 CDI and will only expecting it to be ready end Oct.

So Bryan540, bottom line is up to how you feel about the car you'd test driven & of course they have to agree with your pocket as well :money: . Good luck with your choices :D !

well i seriously hope buyer do nt ecpect much...wad u pay is wad u get...i have no high expectations as b class is a basic base model...if wan performance n comfort n lush interior go for the cls63 or s500...if nt even the E class i feel its not pwrful nor comfy..

maintenance wise its a merc so regardless of its class definitely it will b exp if nt how does it get its exclusivity or branding...

but its a great post though...great point for potential buyers...

thank alot mate!!

They stop bringing in the B160 I think. Heard that it is underpowered. My current ride is B180. Decent power n torque and feels great when cruising, interior is spacious - more than the C 180. Back side itchy so just booked the new C180 CGI.

Test drove the C180 Kompressor and the power / torque much better than current ride. The new B is very nice and is turbo charged but I'm just tired of hatches :(

Last 3 rides ... Starting with most recent

1. B180

2. Stream

3. Mazda2

Bored. Time for a saloon .....

I am also ex-owner of 2008 B170 (bought new) and now driving 2012 FL C180K.

Pray hard this new B class trouble free, I had shitty experience 3 years owning B170. Only thing I miss changing to C class is the space of B class, B class look small but interior is surprisingly doesn't feel small at all.

B class interior is bigger than C imo. The 2nd row big difference. lan lan cos the C is RWD so the axle takes up space there ....

I've had no problems with the B180 ...ok except for the foul smell of the aircon at times buy this has been resolved. My mom who has a B170 ... that one lots of problems.

B170 FL (facelift) and B180 is just badge engineering, 100% identical car.

Well looks like I'm luckier than my mom  ... her car all sorts of drama. Just went to workshop again and cost $750 to repair something.

I think I ever wrote about this before, you can use search function except it lost during forum migration.

To sum up less than 3 years owning the car,

  1. Foul smell issue --> car down about ~ 3 days
  2. Air con fan regulator malfunction -->car down about ~ 2-3 days
  3. Air con evaporator coil leaking and it takes 2 times diagnostic before it replaced --> this is the most pissed me off car down more than 1 week but I got T-loan car since I already bang table
  4. Final stray melting interior buttons then decided to let go the car!

So far no problem with engine and transmission.

My B180 is coming to 3 yrs and is serving me well too. No problems except for the foul aircon smell

I had this but bang table a lot until they more or less resolve this. Slight issue that still occurs intermittently.

Forgotten to mention, less than 1 year aicon buttons ring crumbled and triangle button cracked by unknown reason --> replaced FOC. I parked my car under sun in the office and sheltered when at home.

After 2.5 years all buttons on the steering melt down and claim for warranty rejected flat.

So far not even single drama with my FL C180K, touchwood!
