Advice Needed on STA Inspecion Report

CHT

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am newbie at SGMerc and am currently in the process of finalizing a purchase for a used 2008 E200K, which was sent for STA inspection and came back with an overall B grading. All the tested items were graded B, except the Electrical and Mechanical System which was graded a C. The report also remarked that "Transmission Sump sign of oil seepage" and "Front Lower Arm Bush sign of worn". Would appreciate any advice or views from members on the above, especially relating to the cost of having these defects fixed. Thanks.

Rough price since I last did the repairs about a month ago at Chip Soon Auto.

"Transmission Sump sign of oil seepage"

$100-200 or so? Basically, take out seal up leak, put new o-ring (can't rmb the technical name). Done

"Front Lower Arm Bush sign of worn"

$100-200 per side (or total). No more creaks!

You probably need to change the suspensions too. About $1k for front and back.

One of the cheapest and most reliable mech shop around.

See the number of mechanics there you know le.

FYI: My car is precisely 120k km too. Hah!

Hi, the car is about 4.5 years old and the odometer reads 120,000km, 2 previous owners. Any advice?

Mileage wise on the slightly higher end with 2 owners.

Normally, used cars around this age will receive a B grading.

I am no expert, but if graded C for electrical and mechanical I will be a little concerned. I would feel the car is not being taken care of with regular servicing and repairs done as required.

The other issues like oil seepage and bush arm worn are just basic wear and tear. Is the car dealer going to resolve the issues for you?

Just sharing my input, hope it helps.

Ask the dealer to fix these up for you if you are buying the car from one of them........

Thanks guys, the normal wear and tear stuff doesn't seem too serious, I suppose it's to be expected of a car this age. I'll probably need to have a word with the mechanic who did the inspection at STA to get more details on the C grade for the electrical and mechanical system. Thanks again for your input!
